Amazon.co.uk Review
A richly-acclaimed World War II drama, and one that deserved the many plaudits it garnered, IBand Of Brothers/I remains as compelling, gripping and moving as it was when it first appeared over half a decade ago. And now it makes a very welcome debut in high definition. p Across ten haunting episodes, IBand Of Brothers/I follows the real-life story of the American army?s Easy Company, an elite paratrooper regiment, from their initial training through to the very end of the war. Along the way, not only do Easy Company take part in some of the most infamous battles and events of the War, but they also suffer many, often brutal losses. And IBand Of Brothers/I pulls no punches in putting those moments across on screen. p But that?s not, ultimately, what IBand Of Brothers/I is about. At it's heart, this is the tale of a group of men relying on one another to get them through unthinkable situations. And this camaraderie is brilliantly put across by the generally unknown cast of actors, many of whom turn in outstanding performances here. p The quality production values are sustained behind the camera, as IBand Of Brothers/I? episodes are directed by the likes of Tom Hanks, Phil Alden Robinson (IField of Dreams/I) and David Leland (IThe Devil Wears Prada/I). The show gives all the impression that little expense was spared in depicting the right visual look, and the results are on screen to be admired. p In short, IBand of Brothers/I remains a vital, brilliant piece of television drama, and one that will stick in your mind long after the credits have rolled on the final episode. --IJon Foster/I

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST   November 14, 2008

Perfectly written, cast and filmed there really is no television series that can rival Band of Brothers. The Blu Ray release only adds to the experience, the 1080p picture is perfection but perhaps more importantly the DTS-HD sound is simply stunning if run through a home cinema surround sound system, the battle scenes are awesome and the explosions will have ornaments falling off your wall. The sound also brings to life the superb score by Michael Kamen, there is not a finer movie or TV soundtrack around, a true masterpiece. Full credit to Hanks, Spielberg, the BBC and HBO for giving us this classic and absolute respect to the real men of Easy Company, totally inspiring.

5 out of 5 stars The best way to see it, but only just.   November 25, 2008

This is a welcome Blu-ray release but beware. To simulate the look of historical footage, the filmmakers added grain and colour bleach to the picture in post-production. Because of this, the improvement upon the DVD version is occasionally impressive but usually marginal. Nevertheless, the fact that it is better (along with a DTS-HD soundtrack) makes this the best possible way to experience this excellent series. br / br /There are a couple of new features for Blu-ray: picture-in-picture commentaries by Easy Company veterans and a handy timeline viewing mode, which tracks the narrative chronologically and allows you to access more information on characters and events at relevant moments.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect picture and sound   December 2, 2008

This is one of the top 10 war movie productions ever made. br /Follow the lives of Easy company from the training grounds in USA , England , France , Holland and Germany. br / br /Filmed with great realism ( second to saving private Ryan ) and with an outstanding direction each episode could have been a war movie on its own , so what you get in this boxset is 6 great war movies. br / br /The extras and production notes are worth watching but the best part are the interviews to the living soldiers. br / br /This guys deserve a lot of respect and I was very much impressed with the quality of picture and sound in this epic war collection. br / br /More please

5 out of 5 stars 100% ESSENTIAL   September 24, 2008

BAND OF BROTHERS....on bluray. This deserves a moment to take in how happy this makes me. Why? because its simply the pinnacle the best ever drama to grace a TV screen. In fact once seen every war movie you can remember cannot compete with the sheer emotion and quality of it. br / br /Band of Brothers is based on a book by Stephen E Ambrose and is spread across 10 episodes following Easy Company from the 101st Airbourne from basic training to VE day. (USUKFRAHOLBELGER) br / br /Each episodes begins with several living members of Easy Company speaking about his personal experience which brings so much identity to each episode. Its Emotional, Inspiring, Chilling, Funny. The cast is spot on from Sobel to Winters to Spears. The final episode where they are playing baseball makes me cry everytime. Also where the names and rank of the men who have been introducing each episode comes up the last time they speak at the end having seen what they went through....powerfull. br / br /What Band of Brothers does, and what the people who made it should be proud of is it makes you have so much RESPECT and admiration for the men of Easy Company who fought in the war. br / br /In these modern times where respect is demanded but rarely earnt these men, these band of brothers should be remembered. This superb series is a testament to that. And I for one think it should be shown in all schools as part of the curriculum.
