Amazon.co.uk Review
Nearly 20 years after riding his last iCrusade/i, Harrison Ford makes a welcome return as archaeologist/relic hunter Indiana Jones in iIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull/i, an action-packed fourth installment that's, in a nutshell, less memorable than the first three but great nostalgia for fans of the series. Producer George Lucas and screenwriter David Koepp (iWar of the Worlds/i) set the film during the cold war, as the Soviets--replacing Nazis as Indy's villains of choice and led by a sword-wielding Cate Blanchett with black bob and sunglasses--are in pursuit of a crystal skull, which has mystical powers related to a city of gold. After escaping from them in a spectacular opening action sequence, Indy is coerced to head to Peru at the behest of a young greaser (Shia LaBeouf) whose friend--and! Indy's colleague--Professor Oxley (John Hurt) has been captured for his knowledge of the skull's whereabouts. Whatever secrets the skull holds are tertiary; its reveal is the weakest part of the movie, as the CGI effects that inevitably accompany it feel jarring next to the boulder-rolling world of Indy audiences knew and loved. There's plenty of comedy, delightful stunts--ants play a deadly role here--and the return of iRaiders/i love interest Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood, once shrill but now softened, giving her ex-love bemused glances and eye-rolls as he huffs his way to save the day. Which brings us to Ford: bullwhip still in hand, he's a little creakier, a lot grayer, but still twice the action hero of anyone in film today. With all the anticipation and hype leading up to the film's release, perhaps no reunion is sw! eeter than that of Ford with the role that fits him as snugly ! as that fedora hat. --iEllen A. Kim/i

5 out of 5 stars Hennery Jones ... Junior, part time teacher   October 25, 2008

Wow it is all there, the formula the action the mystery and the frillier actors. If that is not enough we have new actors of great caliber and some new one liners to repeat to friends and family. Everything that made the original Indiana Jones films has been intensified. br / br /Karen Allen's character is just as cut and feisty as ever. It takes a couple of double takes to realize that Col. Dr. Irina Spalko is the Academy Award wining Cate Blanchett in a Natasha outfit. I could go on but it is time for you to see for your self. br / br /My favorite scene is where Indy is being showered down, hosed off and scrubbed. Watch closely as he is being scrubbed in a private part of his anatomy and has to make a broom adjustment. br /-------------------------------------- br /It is the height of the Cold War. The Ruskies are looking for an upper hand. Naturally they look for the super natural or inter-dimensional physic advantage. And of course they get Dr. Hennery Jones Jr. (much older Harrison Ford) to unwittingly play into their hands. With the help of a young sidekick Mutt (Shia LaBeouf) he must find a crystal skull in an effort to free his kidnapped associate Henry Oxley (John Hurt). In the process he has to navigate between two independent women Col. Dr. Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett) and Marion Ravenswood (Karen Allen.) br / br /Watch the movie to find out the mystery of the scull and if Indy, oops Hennery Jones Jr. will succeed or stick his fedora in it. Bring your ant spray. br / br /I have to admit I waited for Blu-ray so I can not compare to non Blu-ray versions. br / br /The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Theatrical and Extended Limited Edition)Cate Blanchett plays Galadriel br / br /

5 out of 5 stars Indy's still the best at what he does after all these years!   May 27, 2009

We have had many films try and steal Indy's crown over the years such as Sahara, tomb raider, National Treasure, The Da Vinci Code and the Mummy films but they have all failed. 19 Years after the Last Crusade we at long last have the Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull to show all the pretenders how it should be done. Harrison Ford still looks and plays the role of Indy great at the age of 65 what a inspiration he is to us all. Shia Labeouf who was in the film Transformers is great as Indy's son and John Hurt who starred in the first alien film is wonderful to watch as normal. Cate Blanchett who was in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy makes a excellent villain and i must say that Ray Winstone who is most famous for playing in gangster films The Departed being one of them is jolly good too. The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull takes place in the 1950's during the cold war so are hero is taking on the Russians instead of the Nazis which makes sense as indy has aged of course. The story is very good with lots of action and i must say i for one thought the ending was tremendous too. For all those people that thought this film was unrealistic and over the top watch the original films again as the Indiana Jones films have always been far fetched, but for me that is part of the fun and why many people like myself love them. There are lots of special features on this blu-ray two disc to do with the making and the history of Indiana Jones which are all very interesting. The thx surround sound is amazing and the blu-ray transfar is spot on as was expected being a new release. Indiania Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull is a must have film. br / br /

5 out of 5 stars Great movie and a fantastic Blu ray   November 10, 2008

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is another classic Indy adventure which stands up extremely well to the first three movies in the series. Those who were upset by what they saw as an 'unrealistic ending' obviously have never seen the ending to an Indiana Jones film! Put simply, this is classic Indiana Jones. br /Now onto the Blu ray disc itself - the image is crystal clear and the sound is superb. There are also numerous making-ofs and trailers. The only thing that would have made this release even better would have been a commentary track by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. br /All in all, this is a great movie and if you are a true Indiana Jones fan, you won't be disappointed by this.

5 out of 5 stars Jolly Jones!   November 19, 2008

Excellent film. Even better watched a second time. br /Why cant aliens be in a Indiana Jones film? Who says not? br /Lucas based the original 3 on 1930s melodramas. But here he based it on 50s b-movie alien/monster flicks. It works so well. br /The blu ray transfer is one of the best ive seen and it sounds fantastic also. br /Sit back, relax and enjoy where the adventure takes you. Ace. br /Just 1 question: Indys dad has died in the film, yet in the last one he drank from the holy grail and became immortal. Whats that about?

i've read a lot of reviews slating this film for being ott but what did they expect?it's an indiana jones film - pure escapism and not to be taken seriously.after the grim (but superb) dark knight this is a welcome alternative.yes its cheesy, and harrison fords looking his age but there's something magical about this film that takes me back to being a kid.the action scenes are terrific, special effects brilliant,it's just a blast and it looks cracking on bluray.
