Amazon.co.uk Review
iThe Dark Knight/i arrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralysed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.p/ In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director/co-writer Christopher Nolan (iMemento/i) follows his critically acclaimed iBatman Begins/i with an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies like iSpider-Man 2/i and iIron Man/i because of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--iThe Dark Knight/i is a film for the ages. --iDavid Horiuch/i

5 out of 5 stars Awesome   October 13, 2008

Intense, visually stunning, compelling!! This film will just simply blow away any preconceptions you may have of other Batman, indeed other super-hero films. It's as much a crime drama as well as a super-hero film and has a very layered story-line concerning the various crime syndicates and how they're reacting to Batman's arrival (Batman Begins). Then The Joker arrives... br / br /Much has been said about Heath Ledger after his tragic death and in regards to this film, but words alone cannot describe the power of his performance. It surely must rank as one of the most creepy, evil and hilariously funny performances of all time!! br / br /When I first saw this film, I have to admit I had mixed feelings about how things resolve themselves (without giving too much away) but when I saw it the second time and, understanding a bit more about the Batman character and his evolution into Gotham's protector, it made a great deal more sense and was ultimately much more satisfying. br / br /This film will leave a lasting impression on you long after the credits have rolled. A cliche I know but a truly heartfelt one, because this is simply an excellent film!!

5 out of 5 stars They get better and better   November 8, 2008

I remember the first Batman with Michael Keaton playing the part of Batman and Jack Nicholson playing the Joker and the hype surrounding it. At the time I thought it was a pretty good film. Then the sequels happened and various big name actors played the parts of both our hero and the villains. They films got worse each time they mad another. br / br /After a few years off Christian Bale became Batman and he plays the part to perfection. This film is even better then Batman Begins (Or Batman 5) and Heath Ledger is amazing in the part of the Joker. It is sad that this is his last film and his greatest performance. br / br /The plot is based upon the standard super hero film. The action and sets are fantastic. What sets it apart is Heath as the Joker. It put's Jack's attempt to shame. br / br /5 stars all the way. br /

5 out of 5 stars At this time, the best Batman Film of all time!!!   January 20, 2009
Krishna Jaipersad (Port of spain Trinidad and Tobago)
I bought this received it intact, no complaints. The film is fantastic!!! The late Heath Ledger did a phenomenal job portraying the infamous Joker. In my opinion, a very close approximation to the Joker in the comics. br /I do have a problem with the lack of Special Features!! When compared to the extras of Batman Begins, this fails in comparison!!!! Does this mean we will have to double dip? Only time will tell!!! Enjoy!!!

5 out of 5 stars Exceeds The Hype-----BRILLIANT   January 28, 2009
Mr. P. Keighley (Leeds UK)
Well............ What Can I say?........This Movie Definatly Exceeds All The Hype Without Doubt, A FANTASTIC Film With Some Extraodinary Performances Too, Obviously Heath Ledger Steals The Show For His Amazing Rendition Of The Joker, But a Word Also For Aaron Eckhart, Who I Think Plays Harvey Dent/Two Face Really Brilliantly Too...........Perhaps The Film Goes On a Few Minutes Longer Than It Might Have, But Thats a Very Minor Critiscm! br / br /As For The Packaging Etc, I Was A Little Disappointed That It Came In a Jiffy Bag, Being As its a " Limited Edition " Fortunatly Mine Arrived Without Any Damage, And I Do Like The Batmask Idea, br / Overall, I Am Soo Glad I Invested In The DVD, A BRILLIANT Movie, ALL Batman Fans Will LOVE This .

5 out of 5 stars The best comic book movie adaptation so far?   January 29, 2009
L. West (Scotland)
Quite simply in my humble opinion, oh hell yeah. br /Masterful performances by all the main leads and solid performances from the bit part actors (i don't like katie holmes replacement but she gets what she deserves so i don't mind the wait too much), the story is very faithful and makes sense without being too outlandish or 'hollywood-esque', i quite simply enjoyed it so much i could watch it once everyday to see something new everytime and never get bored. (just ignore the sound of batmans voice and listen to the words, as long as you don't laugh at it you will have a guaranteed classic)
