Amazon.co.uk Review
emHigh School Musical 3: Senior Year/em is the third film in Disney's record-smashing series, and the first to debut in theaters rather than on the Disney Channel, and while many of the elements are the same, the film is at times bigger to accommodate the big screen. All the usual characters are back, but not for long: it's senior year, and the classmates are all facing the prospect of leaving East High in separate directions. Troy (Zac Efron) is ready to play hoops at the University of Albuquerque with best friend Chad (Corbin Bleu), but doesn't want to be a thousand miles away from Stanford-bound Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens). Taylor (Monique Coleman) is headed to Yale, while Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale), brother Ryan (Lucas Grabeel), and the school's pianist-composer Kelsi (Olesya Rulin) are all in the running for a single scholarship to Juilliard. The showcase for them will be Ms. Darbus' new musical, Senior Year, which will recap the academic careers of the students themselves. (So if the original HSM was a retelling of Grease, HSM3 is more A Chorus Line). There are a few new characters: Sharpay's personal assistant Tiara Gold (Jemma McKenzie-Brown), and Troy's hangers-on, Rocket Man (Matt Prokop) and Donny Dion (Justin Martin), who may give the franchise life beyond its original cast (if they make some headway in the likability department). But it's all about the songs and the dances. Ryan and Sharpay sizzle in a classic-musical tribute "I Want It All"; Troy and Gabriella share a rooftop waltz in "Can I Have This Dance"; and Troy and Chad blow off steam in a salvage yard in "The Boys Are Back". "Now or Never" is this film's "sports song", and Troy and Gabriella have their big duet "Just Wanna Be With You" and their own showcases, in "Scream" and "Walk Away", respectively. If the closing anthem, "High School Musical", seems on the self-congratulatory side, it's a rare misstep in a series that has made a generation of tweens (especially girls) sing and dance and realize they can be whatever they want to be. --emDavid Horiuchi/em

5 out of 5 stars HSM3! Whoa!   October 26, 2008

I've loved HSM since the UK premiere on the Disney Channel of the first one. Ever since, HSM 1+2 have been a film I turn to if I want to watch an uplifting and happy film, which makes you forget about everything else. HSM3, is a totally different story! The first outing to cinema screens, and, it was bloody amazing! The dances, songs, the set in the songs (especially I Want It All and A Night To Remember). I saw it on the Wednesday, and then on the Friday, and hopefully more. I just can't get enough of it as it is that amazing. It is full of emotion, some laughs, and is just 2 hours of innocent fun which everyone will enjoy, even parents who hated the first 2! br /Overall, amazing, and better than Mamma Mia! 5/5

I completely disagree with the other reviewers. I took my 7 year old to see HSM3 today and not only did she love it but so did I and I am her 37 year old father! Wonderful songs, fantastic dance routines, comedy, romance (I even shed a tear when Troy chose to go to Uni near Gabriella!) This is the best of the HSM series and one of the best Musical films of all time, it was "simply fabulous"!

Well, i absolutely CANNOT wait for this to come out on DVD! February 16th seems like an awfully long way away right now. ;-( I loved this movie SOOO much i went to see it 3 times! And i adore the other two as well. This is so much bigger and more entertaining than the others though, and how often can you say that in the last of a trilogy? Superbly acted and sung (with the exception of Vanessa, i'm afraid i still found her extrememly irritating)and the sets, costumes and songs are amazing! Favourites have to be 'The Boys are Back', 'Scream', 'A Night to Remember' and 'I Want it All'. I am 28 years old and am not ashamed at all to say that: I'm a Wildcat! And once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat!

i went to see hsm3 with my 4 year old my niece who is 7 and my sister. I am 32 and my sis is 38. we both loved the film. We have both seen 1 and 2 so many times we know all the song words and most of the words to the films. Our children were sat in the pics dancing and trying to sing to the songs and myself and my sis were actually crying it is a top film and all the people who say it isnt i think really did enjoy it but wont admitt they did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 out of 10. Went to the cinema yesterday to see this. It is on a par, if not even BETTER than the first movie. If you liked the other HSM movies this film is a must!
