Amazon.co.uk Review
div class="content" If iYou Don't Mess with the Zohan/i feels like an extended and crazed sketch from iSaturday Night Live/i, there are reasons for that. iZohan/i's star and iSNL/i alumnus Adam Sandler is joined by several fellow cast members (in uncredited cameo roles) from his years on the NBC show. But Sandler also co-wrote the film's absurdist script with iSNL/i veteran writer and sometime-performer Robert Smigel. Echoes of a few of their classic skits on the show--built around high-strung Israeli characters obsessed with disco and selling junk electronics out of a New York shop--are revisited in iZohan/i and are a lot of fun to see again. iZohan/i is unbridled nonsense thrown at the wall, but with a sunny disposition that proves surprisingly persuasive. Sandler stars as an Israeli intelligence operative who fakes his death to reinvent himself in New York City as a hairdresser. Putting the lie to assumptions that any man in that professional field must be gay, Zohan routinely provides raucous sexual favours for all his older female customers. The sight of bottles of gels and hairsprays falling off shelves while the indefatigable Zohan pleasures frisky grannies is pure iSNL/i, and is funnier than it might sound. The silly story involves an old, Palestinian enemy of Zohan, the Phantom (John Turturro), showing up in Manhattan, but everything is really leading to a Big Apple version of the resolution of Israeli-Palestinian conflicts we'd all like to see on a large scale. The film is almost instantly forgettable, and there are many times it veers toward the dumb, but it also sells itself well as a nutty concept. i--Tom Keogh/ibrbr span class="h1"strongStills from I You Don't Mess with the Zohan /I (click for larger image)/strong/span table border="0" cellpadding="4" width="100%" cellspacing="4"p p tr align="center" valign="top" td img border="0" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/sony/Zohan/Zohan_1sm.jpg" br /tdp td img border="0" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/sony/Zohan/Zohan_2sm.jpg" br p /td td img border="0" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/sony/Zohan/Zohan_3sm.jpg" br /td /td tr align="center" valign="top" td img border="0" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/sony/Zohan/Zohan_4sm.jpg" br p /td td img border="0" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/sony/Zohan/Zohan_5sm.jpg" br /td td img border="0" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/sony/Zohan/Zohan_6sm.jpg" br /td /tr /table /!-- end6pak --

5 out of 5 stars Sandler Back at his best   January 30, 2009

This is Sandler back at his best, funny, from start to finish. However i agree with the review above. Sandler's movies may not appeal to all, and i would rent this first if your not a huge fan of Sandler. Suprisingly, Zohan actually has a meaning to it, and after watching the special features, the actors, both Israeli and Palestinian. Found themselves to be very alike and comment on how the film does have a meaning, directed at the war. Overall a Superb film, A must have for Adam Sandler Fans!

I thought this was a great film, typical of sandlers style it was very silly but intelligent at the same time.with good use of irony and satire,I can see that this may have gone a miss to a lot of viewers.to the untrained eye it may even appear racist, its the opposite its takes the Mickey out of peoples attitudes towards stereo types.I guess its a love it or hate it film and I loved it.

4 out of 5 stars The middle east conflict explained in 2 hours of fun   September 10, 2009

I was not expecting a great deal as Sandler's work of late has disappointed me badly ,but due to the middle eastern tone of the film I decided to give it a go. br /Is it funny ? hell yeah br /Sandler plays an ott israeli anti terrorist agent who is fed up with the constant war and retires to become a hairdresser but his past will not let him in peace. br /The sript is rather funny and the jokes are fluent poking fun at multiple stereotypes , mostly jewish. 4 stars

4 out of 5 stars Very Silly Fun but Only for Those that Enjoy Adam Sandler   January 26, 2009

In my opinion, the Amazon review is accurate. This is a pointless, silly and ridiculous film. However, it is good fun and the characters, in spite of being one dimensional, leave you feeling good. I generally enjoy Adam Sandler's movies and his sense of humour appeals to me. However, if you didn't enjoy any of his earlier efforts, then you won't enjoy this either. Some of the comedy is quite politically incorrect, but it is this combined with the extent of the absurdity that makes it funny. This film is a great way to spend a couple of hours relaxing and being amused, but it won't change your life and it won't make you think.
