There are two sides to this movie - the serious one and the fun one. br /The serious is that it tells a story based on things that really happen (the women's fate in this movie). My wife just watching these scenes was so horrified and pissed off in the same time that I haven't seen her like that. The bad characters are 100% bad and you feel great when they are taken care of by the enraged father. br /The fun part is that the story is very fluent (not believable but you wish you were this guy with his set of skills to do the job that he is doing). br /Another idea of Luc Besson - and a brilliant one. br /Liam Neeson - I was disappointed when I saw his name in the leading role. But when I saw him in action...he is 100% convincing and excellent in this role. br /Looking for a good action movie that will keep you glued to the screen for 1.5h?! - This is your 100% guaranteed pick.

Tis baffling that Taken doesn't come with a fanfare, as it's exceptional so, while this is a darker dealio than mainstream Hollywood normally churns out, I expect this will be a slow-burner that catches on by word of mouth. br / br /Leeson plays a former army ranger/secret government scary type with "mad skills" as the young 'uns say (or said several years ago.) When his teenage daughter goes missing in gay Paree, it's up to him to find her before the trail goes cold after 96 hours. He gradually burrows his way down through the layers of Paris' criminal underground until we reach its festering, seedy underbelly. br / br /It's a cross between 8MM, Commando and Frantic - and it is far, far greater than the sum of its parts. Leeson gives a masterful performance, and Maggie Grace (best known for her role as Shannon in Lost) is excellent and unrecognisable as kidnapped daughter Kim. br / br /Taken is 2008's hidden gem, and it comes very recommended indeed.

This film took me completely by suprise. Upon watching the first 20mins I wasn't sure where it was going. It is hard to picture Liam Neeson taking on an action role, but he pulls it off very well. Those who are fans of the Bourne Identity films will appreciate that Neeson gives Matt Damon a run for his money. The fight scenes are very well choreographed and the storyline doesn't lose its pace. If you are a fan of the modern action film but enjoy a gripping, tense storyline then this is a must see.

I love Liam Neeson who I think is a very understated actor who chooses some very interesting films to star in. This was not his usual type of film and one of the very few in which he plays the lead role. This is an absolutely great film. I read some of the 1 star comments on Amazon for this film and I think these people have really missed the point of Taken. Its not meant to be clever, neither is meant to confuse the audience with a overly convoluted story line. Its a straight forward film with a straight forward story line and a straight talking actor! Good old revenge story!! Its grim and gritty and the back drop of eastern europe was a good choice. Horrific at times and the human trafficking side of the film brings the subject uncomfortably close to home. On the other hand, its a "SHOOT FIRST ASK QUESTIONS..... NEVER!" kind of film with a shoot everything in sight metality. As you realise whats happening to the daughter all you want Liam neeson to do is beat the bad guys to a pulp even more! The action, the cqc sequences, and the car chases were very good (car chases were very similar to those of Ronin if anyone remembers that film!). To summarise its a action film, with a linear plot, lots of guns, cars and killings but with a grim and grittier edge. br /The only down sides of the film were: 1) Holly valance cannot act to save her life! 2) The ending seemed a bit empty! I personally think that after all that liam neeson had done for his daughter, that she should have decided to live with him. (after all he had also left his job just to spend more time with her as well!)

Excellent action movie with Liam Neeson as hard as nails. A relentless pace virtually from start to finish. Guns, car chases, and hand to hand combat. br /This is an Action Movie and proud of it!! br / br /The extended DVD version has a few seconds reinstated to the torture sequence.
