4 out of 5 stars I felt very bad about liking this.   December 11, 2008

A film written by a computer program under the control of some desperately cynical genius at Disneycorp or similiar, 'Rocker' answers the unasked question of what movie the aging rock fan would like to take his eleven year old daughter to. Basically its an unholy marriage between 'High School Musical' and 'Spinal Tap' - A young, squeaky clean 'rock' band from the suburbs - who've all got 'issues' as you might expect, (mainly to do with how the straights can't cope with their challenging 80s Fleetwood Mac-stylee hairdos) are led to fame by a drummer who has spent 20 years in the wilderness after a Pete Best style expulsion from a band who subsequently become extremely successful. But it all works out in the end, obviously. br / br /It's a terribly cynical movie, expertly blending the Disney style 'You can be whatever you want to be' nonsense with the Spinal Tap stuff, but I must admit I quite enjoyed it, and had a bit of a sniffle at the end of the film when all the band members found true lurv. These people really are evil.
