Amazon.co.uk Review A quirky independent film featuring some strong acting by an eclectic cast, iJust Add Water/i captures the desolate spirit of a group of trailer park inhabitants who have little hope of ever escaping their mundane lives. Ray (Dylan Walsh, iNip/Tuck/i) works as a parking lot attendant who, like many of the town's inhabitants, is at the mercy of the local baby-faced drug dealer Dirk (Will Rothhaar). Flush with money from his meth business, Dirk is now the town's primary landlord and he takes a no-holds barred attitude when it comes to collecting rent from tenants who barely have enough money to survive. Trapped in an apathetic marriage to the agoraphobic Charlene, Ray enjoys some normal moments with their teenage son Eddie (Jonah Hill, iSuperbad/i). Father and son also share an experience neither would want to be reminded of when Ray tries to help Eddie lose his virginity, something Eddie clearly has issues with. Directed and written by actor Hart Bochner, iJust Add Water/i works as an intriguing dark comedy. The casting is spot-on, with a nice appearance by Danny DeVito as a would-be oilman who could make life for these people just a little easier. i--Jae-Ha Kim/i

| Customer Reviews: Not terrible, just not that good... July 12, 2009 Peter M (London United Kingdom) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an indie plot seen through a Hollywood prism, with little relationship to real life and laden with three teaspoons of sugar.
br /
br /The lead (Dylan Walsh) is a po-faced nondescript character around whom all sorts of "wacky" characters and plotlines assemble. Seemingly all of these, whether it is the agoraphobic wife, the wig-topped brother, the gorgeous checkout girl who has patiently waited 18 years just for him (yeah, right), or the extravert new garage manager with the poledancing wife (to name just a few) are caricatures that admittedly add colour but no substance. The action is set in a hot, dusty town called Trona, sited somewhere between LA and Death Valley, i.e. not coincidentally - to my way of thinking - a stone's throw away from Hollywood. I'm afraid none of it is believable, and although there are a few laughs, it is difficult to care about anyone, and the cloyingly saccharine ending just makes you squirm.
br /
br /If you are from the West Coast of the US and love Danny De Vito (he gives a reprise of his Wars of the Roses voiceover as well as being the "lovable little fellah" who sets up the new gas station in the town) you might love its "quirkiness", but for any impartial filmlover it fails in too many areas. It really only does merit the two stars I give it.
