mutant chronicles March 19, 2009 K. S. Lewis (uk) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love Indie films and considering the production budget was just £900k, its a heck of a film. Yep an extra million or two could have added polish, better CGI and a tad more light but for an extreme low budget B movie with a great cast its a cracker.
br / Fast paced, brutal realism and great directing. I just hope its picked up for a decent budget sequel. I would love to see what they could do with a Hollywood budget.
br /One for those who enjoy a different twist on their scifi/horror. Reminds me of those Japanese films that pull you in from a totally different direction.
Impressive, atmospheric, and worth every penny. April 8, 2009 Aaron Richardson (Falkland Islands) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I purchased this move as it appeared on my Amazon recommended list. I knew nothing else, I just pressed "Buy".

br /This was a good move.

br /This movie is categorically not what it sounds like. No spoilers here but if you like Dog Soldiers, Riddick, Gears of War, Serenity and They Live, buy this movie.

Entertaining enough, but no classic August 29, 2009 Alex DeLarge (Dublin, Ireland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Year: 2707
br /
br /The world is ruled by four corporations: Mishima (Asia) Bauhaus (Europe, well most of it) Capitol (The Americas, incorporating the British Isles) and Empire (Africa). War is constant.
br /
br /Nathan Rooker (Sean Pertwee) looking uncannily like a superannuated Damon Albarn, is in the midst of a battle between Capitol and Bauhaus when suddenly lobster claw-armed creatures begin to kill soldiers arbitarily, they are stabbed through the throat and eviscerated on the muddy war plains in the constant rain.
br /
br /War has 'broken the seal' of an ancient machine that transforms humans into these vaguely aquatic-looking zombie monsters. But the Capitol's MD, (a subdued John Malkovitch) and an old priest with a big face have gotten hold of a bomb and its trigger, and a map to 'the machine', which they can blow up with the bomb, but only if they can find a key which should be nearby. A team of crack soldiers are assembled to do the job of killing 'the machine'...
br /
br /Solid b-movie nonsense, atmospheric and well shot, loses points for its overlong second act and reliance on a pseudo 1940s visual language to conjure up a 28th century more akin to fantasy than sc-fi.

Low budget sci fi epic. December 10, 2008 genejoke (uk) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a steampunk sci fi epic, the plot is staright forward and the charactes generally 2 dimensional. However it is entertaining enough and well performed enough that you can simply sit back and enjoy it for the action sci fi spectacle it is. Despite an obviously meager budget it looks good and the design is impressive. It will not to be everyones taste and but my friends and I greatly enjoyed it.
A highly enjoyable B-movie November 26, 2008 godzilla78 (northern ireland) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
First of all i saw the trailer and thought this would be awful but i was really suprised in the end. It's a b-movie from start to finish, has plenty of blood and gore and is a hell of a lot better than it should have been. In the beginning of the film we are treated to trench warfare deep into the future which takes inspiration from WW1. The world is at war and divided as in the game of "risk". The humans must put aside their differences to combat the mutant threat which seems unstopable. Thus a multi-national crack squad must travel into the depths of the earth to take on thousands of mutants. The acting is perhaps a little wooden in places whilst Ron Perlman's orish accent slips from time to time but don't let that put you off. A classic sci-fi b-movie which should kill a couple of hours which also offers the possibility for a sequal. This isn't going to be to everyone's taste but it certainly took me by suprise.
