100 Feet review January 11, 2009 D. King (witham, essex United Kingdom) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
100 Feet

br /I watched this film with little expectation, as a fan of horror movies i like em to grab me and not let go until the end...
br /And im pleased to say this film delivers in many ways.
br /The plot is simple..housebound woman is haunted by the violent ghost of her dead husband who becomes increasingly violent as the film evolves.
br /There are some genuine white knuckle moments in this movie..watch out for the waste disposal scene..yes it has been done before in the Final Destination movie..but its still eye watering none the less!
br /If you are a fan of gore there is more than enough to keep you hooked..the murder of the womans lover is one of the most gruesome things ive seen in a long time.
br /Anyway..if you like a simple movie with great acting, superb effects and suspense...watch it as soon as you can..you wont regret it!

Surprisingly good April 20, 2009 Mr. P. Abbott (South of England) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I also never had many expectations about this film and yet this is the second horror/supernatural film from DNC that has surprised me (the other being The Chair). Its all very low budget and the entire film is set in the house but this is what adds to the film. I agree with the other reviewer - the death of the neighbour she sleeps with his horrendous. How they passed that of on a 15 certificate I will never know. Its far more effective then being slashed up with blood and guts flying around as this death is very real. The appearances by the ghost are also very well done (although he looks like Michael Myers from Halloween films at times!)

low budget ..... but deserves recognition ...... September 20, 2009 war movie hunter (kent , u.k.) This movie is a low budget affair ,which seems to be the way many of these type of movies seem to get made lately one fairly big name for the advertising and then many more backup actors in the minor roles either way for me it is well worth a watch if not for the claustrophobic atmosphere created by the main characters situation which i will not go into so as to spoil the movie for everyone , but also for the way in which once the movie warms up and things start to happen they happen in a very violent and fairly shocking way , which was a bit of a surprise to me seeing as the film was fairly quiet and slow in the starting , i liked the movie and i am sure many wont but as it stands as a low budget supernatural story with an obviously lesser known group of actors i think it is well worth a watch especially as there are,nt many good supernatural movies out there at the moment .
Scary just isn't enough April 28, 2009 E. Paton 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
100 Feet was exciting for me because the best way to describe it is a cross between Disturbia and Ju-on. Although it did deliver the perfect atmosphere that you would expect from the offspring of these two films, it lacked substance in plot and general screenplay. The ending, for me, was unrealistic and the use of special effects was blatantly unneccesary. The typically Western film mistake of thinking that special effects make a film look better and more expensive, is prominent towards the end of this film. Really the "less is more" principal should have been more strictly applied. Overall I think 100 Feet is worth watching, but I wouldn't recommend it to a friend.
Well short of the mark as an effective horror film. June 8, 2009 russell clarke (halifax, west yorks) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
The haunted house genre is given a bit of a twist with 100 Feet , the title referring to the fact that the lead character Marnie ( Famke Janssen) is under house arrest and cannot move further than 100 feet from the control unit that runs the electronic tag on her ankle. This means she is trapped with the ghost of her violent husband who she murdered in self defence. Found guilty of manslaughter Marnie is granted early release as long as she adheres by the 100 foot rule. Other wise it's back to jail , do not pass go , do not collect $200.
br /As it happens the fact she is being terrorised by the malevolent ghost of her husband is just one of many problems though it is unarguably the worst one. Her husbands partner Shanks ( Bobby Cannavale) is assigned ,somewhat preposterously , to her case and is casing her house hoping she will violate her probation so her can send her back to prison, her sister Frances ( Patricia Charbonneau) hates her and the neighbourhood isn't so enamoured with her either. Joey( Ed Westwick) , a local delivery boy offers the lone hand of friendship, though that may be more to do with the fact he is clearly gagging to get carnal.
br /There is promise in this scenario but it's blown by ridiculous special effects ( The husband ghost looks like Brian Cox passing a kidney stone in a heat haze) the absurd decisions made by it's central character, hammy dialogue , and an ending so lame it limps off the screen , hunched in embarrassment .
br /Famke Janssen does her best with the material giving a committed performance and there are genuine moments of suspense and one exceptionally violent scene that is very well done but the film is undermined by the fact that that as soon as the spouse spectre appears it will more likely engender screams of laughter than screams of terror. Director and writer Eric Red has missed a trick here .He could have made sinister and insidiously creepy film and placed Marnie at the centre of an ambiguous mystery -Is she really being haunted by her dead husband or is she slowly unravelling with guilt and isolation ?- but blows it with lurid melodrama and potty conflagrations.100 Feet just about passes muster as low rent entertainment but is well short of the mark as an effective horror film.
