It was such a great detective series ! Seeing who had done the murder at the start and thus knowing who had done it is interesting because then our hero has to pin it on someone who while supposedly helping Columbo is in fact leading the dogged detective on a merry dance. You get a good number of celebrities cropping up and Peter Falk does play the part in a very charming and engaging way with his dirty old mac and sense of duty making the performance a joy to behold. br / br /Although an American production it is nice drawing-room type fare that can help pass a wet Sunday afternoon just nicely. It is gentler stuff than Kojak but has a bit more grit than say Murder She Wrote or Diagnosis Murder. The scripts are very cleverly written and it is always interesting to see what mistake led to the murderer being found out. br / br /Columbo is smarter than people think and killers underestimate him at their peril. Amazon are selling this for a great price and this series deserves to be better regarded than it is in some quarters. I recommend this superb set of DVD's as a fine addition to a collection for any fan of top notch detective fiction.

Seasons 8-10 every bit as good as the Seventies April 7, 2009

I wonder at the way people slate Seasons 8-10 compared to Seasons 1-7. Maybe I'm slightly biased because over the years, and being only 19, I remember more of the later seasons because those were the episodes that were repeated more regularly whenever I watched Columbo. But that aside I still think that these seasons are every bit as good as the earlier ones. IF there are any 'weak' episodes in these seasons then they're certainly no weaker than the weak episodes of the seventies seasons. As far as I can see there is no ground for calling these inferior other than people's natural favour towards the earlier episodes because of the very fact that they are earlier and therefore classics and perhaps they grew up on them - which is fair enough for personal preference, but not as far as quality is concerned. br / br /Season 9 is no exception. An excellent boxset - thoroughly recommended. One of my favourites has got to be 'Columbo Cries Wolf' - a very clever episode which I won't spoil for those who haven't seen it. br / br /With Season 8 only including 4 episodes - 4 excellent episodes at that mind - this one is perhaps a bit more satisfying with 6 episodes to revel in - which seems to be the standard amount when compared with the other boxsets.

The super sleuth is back to solve the most baffling cases. The modern day Columbo's may not be quite as good as the early ones but they are still great entertainment.

This is another great set of columbo how's he gonna solve it crimes. the format is of the usual making for a comfortable evening with wine and scoffs. If you like Columbo you'll love this season.

Columbo series 9 contains half a dozen of the best Columbos. Whislt the sound quality is lacking a little by modern standards, the video is high quality on the DVDs.
