Amazon.co.uk Review
With eye popping visuals and launching the kind of brightly coloured carnage onto the screen that computer animation excels at, IMonsters vs Aliens/I is a film that knows its intended audience well, and targets them precisely. On one side of the fence is a motley crew of heroes, led by the near 50-feet tall Ginormica. Shersquo;s joined by B.O.B. the blob, Dr Cockroach and the frankly bizarre The Missing Link. Between them, they have to fight off the threat of the dastardly Gallaxhar, in a fairly standard at heart good versus evil adventure.p And yet IMonsters vs Aliens/I throws plenty into the pot to make things more interesting. Firstly, itrsquo;s odd cast of characters are generally the last thing yoursquo;d expect from cute and cuddly kidsrsquo; movies, but theyrsquo;re a hard bunch not to like. Then therersquo;s some terrific voice talent at work, and the overall quality of the animation is simply superb as well. p Whatrsquo;s nice too about IMonsters vs Aliens/I are the tips of the hat to the older viewers. Itrsquo;s not always the most subtle script for working on two levels, but the assorted nods to science fiction classics are warmly appreciated. They certainly help paper over a few of the cracks when the filmrsquo;s blinding visuals relax and leave you realising what a straightforward tale is hiding underneath. But then the film tries so hard to keep you entertained that itrsquo;s hard not to cut it some slack. p For much of the running time of IMonsters vs Aliens/I though you simply wonrsquo;t have to. Thatrsquo;s because itrsquo;s solid, funny and pacey entertainment, that easily whiles away an hour and a half. Therersquo;s plenty of re-watch value here too, in a film that proves to be quality family entertainment. Itrsquo;s no IShrek/I, but itrsquo;s still a fine piece of work. --IJon Foster/I

5 out of 5 stars Great feel good movie!   April 6, 2009

This movie is just great, when I saw this movie yesterday in cinema it wasn't in 3D unluckily but still i still found it absolutly brilliant. It is one of the best feel good movies of the year of course apart from slumdog millionare! But there are great bits for older and younger a like, i'm 12 and i really enjoyed, after kung fu panda and madagascar 2 which are also good but this is just amazing. Wall-e i really like but that was more a work of art than a good family film. Great, just great. Can't wait to buy the dvd.

5 out of 5 stars Funniest Animated Film   November 22, 2009

This film is up there with Toy Story, Ice Age and Finding Nemo in my book. So funny. The president had me in stitches and Bob the Blob is absolutely brilliant especially when he falls in love with a jelly. You won't be disappointed!

4 out of 5 stars 2D or not 2D, that is the question   April 5, 2009

Are you a kid? Or maybe you're a big kid like me who loves dreadful old fifties monster films like The Blob, The Fly, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Earth vs the Flying Saucers and so on? Well, this film is for big kids and little kids and they'll have a whale of a time. br / br /Why only 4 stars? Well, just as Revenge of the Creature and It Came from Outer Space were best enjoyed in 3D, so this film is designed to be savoured in big-screen three-dimensional glory...and that won't happen on your 2D telly. The opening shot of someone thwacking a paddleball repeatedly straight at the camera (a salute to that other 3D favourite, House of Wax with Vincent Price) is completely pointless in 2D and so are many of the film's best moments. br / br /Also, the heroine's weatherman boyfriend is just SO annoying that you want to strangle him every time he appears. Once again, 3D is better at providing the illusion that you might actually be able to do so. br / br /Roll on 3D for the home! Until then, 4 stars only. Sorry.

4 out of 5 stars Monster fun   October 26, 2009

Susan is about to be married when an unfortunate accident involving a falling meteor turns her into a super-strong giant. She is captured and taken to a high security unit where she meets various other monsters who have been captured and imprisoned. it looks like they are there for live, until amysterious robot arrives on earth, apparently bent on destruction. The monsters are called in to save the day. br / br /This is a very funny film, with a lot of amusing dialogue, and should be enjoyed by adults as well as children. Happily, the film keeps sentimentality to a minimum and gives us plenty of action and laughs instead. Far better than most animated films of its kind.
