Wolfe (England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful When i heard there was a film coming out about WW2 i was excited, i like watching WW2 films as long as they're not too Americanised . This film was far from it. With stars such as Daniel Craig in it, it helps to promote it in to a real good movie. br /The plot is set in the second world war. Nazi forces are smashing through Europe exterminating Jews and anyone against Hitler's Aryan race. The Bielski sons escape being killed but there parents are don't. They flee into the woods and try to survive against the Nazis who are hunting Jews. Over the weeks they take on survivors and eventually make a big camp. Tuvia the oldest brother and Zus the second oldest argue about who will take revenge for there parents death. Finally Tuvia takes revenge and kills the local secret police boss. However Zus thinks that there should be more Nazi blood spilt........ br / br /I give the film 5 stars because i think there is a really good story plot and the actors envolved fit well. br / br /I great film for History fanatics! Deep in the woods, they build a community that grows in numbers every day. As Tuvia (Craig) becomes the natural commander of the refugee group, he trains them to become skilled partisan fighters in order to survive, and in return, they teach him the importance of community. br / br /A war movie that not only gives you plenty of bang for your buck, some amazing action sequences and stirring performances, it's also a haunting, thought-provoking movie guaranteed to have you re-evaluating long after the credits have rolled. I am not the biggest fan of this genre. However, DEFIANCE was not one of the run-of-the-mill war movies. br /Neatly avoiding all the generic cliches and war-scenes, it deftly tells the tale of three very different brothers and a gaggle of ousted Jews hiding in the forest. br /There is a little blow-stuff-up but it more leans towards the emotional aspect of such an act, the reasons behind it and the repercussions, rather than the glory-of-war. br /One of the most fascinating things is that the film does not lean too heavily on the Jewish tragedy, in fact these people hiding out could be any ousted minority, and because of this you find that even if you are not Jewish, Russian, Polish or a member of the resistance, you can empathise with many of the characters. br /There are a number of BOO moments, where you literally jump out of your chair, and this all adds to the ambience of the film. br /All in all, a superb film, and one that I will certainly watch again!
