| Customer Reviews: Watchable mix of Bollywood and Chinese action January 20, 2009 KN (Lancs. UK) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Chandni Chowk To China represents Bollywoods first major foray into neighbouring China. The film has plenty of action, slapstick comedy and the standard tale of romance, and also takes advantage of the awesome landscapes that China has to offer.
br /
br /The story is about Sidhu, a simpleton who is bored working in a Delhi market (the famous Chandni Chowk) and pines for a more exciting life. Sidhu is then tricked into believing he is the reincarnation of a great Chinese warrior who must return to help the people of an oppressed village. He sets off anticipating a great adventure but on arrival finds himself hunted by feared mobster Hojo (Gordon Liu). Sidhu eventually is forced to take up the challenge and, under the tutelage of a local Kung Fu master, trains for a showdown with Hojo at the end of the movie.

br /As this film has a heavy martial arts slant, Akshay Kumar is perfectly cast in the main role. In fact people will be interested to learn that parts of the story reflect Akshay Kumar's life - he started off as a cook in Chandni Chowk and then went to Bangkok to learn martial arts. He is also very funny during the first half hour reminding us just how under-rated he is in the comedy department. Deepika Padukone is the female lead and pulls off her role well. Gordon Liu, as ever, is very good value (though not as good as in Kill Bill vol.2).
br /
br /The film certainly won't go down as a classic as the storyline isn't very endearing - a good case of style over substance. Much of the fighting is in the 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon' mode, which requires major suspension of disbelief on the viewer's part; not a problem for Bollywood fans! However, the future should spawn many more Indo-China movies, which hopefully will mean something different and therefore appealing to a wider audience.
Just watch it once April 24, 2009 Rups (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I would describe CC2C as a loud, wacky entertaining blend of Bollywood musical and martial arts epic and, just maybe, the future platform of global cinema.
br /
br /The whole plot is basically about one man's journey to find himself, travelling from Delhi's Chandni Chowk to China. His introduction is humorous yet very over the top and loud. Sidhu (Akshay) is shown as a simple cook who everyday spends his time by cooking and looking for answers from astrologers and to make it rich by winning the lottery. Even though Sidhu is portrayed as loud and bubbly he is also naïve and innocent to his soundings. Sick and tired of his behaviour his Dada (Mithun) shows his anger by kicking him on the back side. This I felt was really over done when Sidhu is flying in the air in a comic manor and lands two miles away in front of a pair of Chinese tourists who think he is the reincarnated soul of a Chinese warrior god. The Chinese tourists convince him and take him to a village in China where he is expected to save the locals from the evil psycho, Hojo (Gordon Liu).

br /Deepika plays twins in CC2C as Sakhi and Meow Meow. Her character as Sakhi is disappointing and lacks presence. On the other hand as Meow Meow she shows her ability as a strong fung fu, arse kicking, sexy lady who works for Hojo.
br /
br /Not to give too much away with what happens next, along the way Sidhu meets Chiang Kohung (Roger Yuan) who is one of Hojo victims and also is the father of the Twins Sakhi and Meow Meow. Due to a memory loss he wonders around as a begger and also knows his hindi. After seeing an old picture of his twins he begins to remember everything. Sidhu seeks help from Chiang Kohung as he has seen him as a Kungfu expert. Training his hard, Sidhu has mastered the art of Kung fu and is ready to defeat Hojo.

br /Akshay as always knows how to make his audiences laugh at the right place. His character seemed to be very loud including his dialogues which we could understand with the slag talk but the non Asian's wouldn't be able to understand it. Most of the action scenes were really well done but also very over the top at the same time. Over all I wouldn't recommend to buy the dvd. Just rent it if your bored.
