Sir Alan, The Great One November 7, 2009 Richard R. Goulstone (Manukau, New Zealand) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
You can keep Richard Branson and any other ponsy pom big wig business men - Sir Alan is king. Not only did he produce the greatest computer series in the history of the world (The Amstrad CPC's), he built a company from scratch, and is as tough as nails. Thanks to Sir Alan, the Aprrentice UK knocks the socks off the USA version, with the bad wigged Trump, and this DVD captures all the series nicely. A must own.
Will the BBC get Fired or Hired over this DVD? May 1, 2009 J. Dale (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love The Apprentice Show and it's absolutely brilliant, in which case this DVD was a bit of a low-drop and a collection of the bits from the first four series (as entitled on the DVD cover), but this could've been better.
br /
br /Don't get me wrong though, this is still a brilliant DVD as it had some one-off shows of The Apprentice on here like the "The Apprentice: Worst Decisions Ever" "The Apprentice: Motor-Mouths". Which also includes interviews with Margaret Mountford Nick Hewer of their memorable moments of the show and audition clips of the first series to the fifth series. However, if your not a fan of swearing, be warned, there is heavy swearing sometimes which is why this is after all a 15 certificate.
br /
br /Overall, this is the first "The Apprentice" DVD out and is brilliant, but for me it loses one star and earning a respectable four because mainly I still agree with the other reviewers so far that while it is good, it's just not good enough as this could've turned into a box-set and release the first four series in full. It's just a matter IF the BBC will learn from its mistake and release the other series, so in the meantime many fans, you'll have to see if the BBC can learn from their error and will hopefully not get fired for it...
Ok - but would rather have the actual complete series' April 23, 2009 Mr. D. M. Pugh (Wales, UK) 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
Just a quick rundown on what this dvd actually contains. The main features are just the two specials that were shown during Series 4 about past candidates:
br / - Motor Mouths
br / - The Worst Decisions Ever.
br /That takes up nearly 2 hours of the DVD. The rest is made up of exclusive-to-DVD extra features which are pretty good.
br / - 'Nick and Margaret's Memorable Moments' has Sir Alan's two aides taking an in-depth look at the highlights of Series 4.
br / - The Auditions - a featurette about the auditioning process including audition clips of all the candidates from Series 1 right through to Series 5.
br / - An Interview with Nick and Margaret - Nick and Margaret talk about the show and its success.
br /
br /Put it like this - as far as 'Best Of The Apprentice' DVDs could go this is excellent, and it is a fine celebration of the past four series. But although the price on Amazon is a bit better it's being sold at HMV currently for £20 which is way to expensive for what you get, even if it is almost 3 hours long. And besides all that, why not release the complete series' in boxsets - I'm sure there's a wide market for them and I know there's plenty of people out there who are searching desperately on the internet for people selling the complete series on DVD because they haven't been released officially.
br /
br /But till that day - if it comes - Apprentice fans will have to make do with this - does what it says on the tin and does it reasonably well.
Very disappointed April 27, 2009 M. Nicolas Babinet (France) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I was very disappointed with this DVD, like the other reviewer, I feel it would have been better to have the series in DVD form. Instead, we got what was basically different personalities criticizing the contestants, accompagnied by sound bites, heavily edited material from the show, all aimed at, and highlighting, the negative without any real possibility to see the business techniques tasks, successful or otherwise.
br /
br /This DVD, played to the culture of the voyeurism we see today , where we revel in other people's failure. It was just a string of 'Oh my God, how could they', and generally failing to give any real idea of context or insight into the business aspect or behaviour ( which afterall , is what this series was supposed to be about). Just a load of self satisfied critics, no substance.
br /
br /What a pity, as I bought this thinking it was 'the best of' as it claims to include, and I had enjoyed the series when I saw it as a whole on TV.
br /
br /Not impressed!
The Apprehensive April 20, 2009 Shaiya 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I'm a big fan of The Apprentice show, but this DVD was a huge letdown.
br /
br /Subtitled as "The Best of Series 1-4", I was under the impression it would feature original material produced exclusively for DVD. I was wrong. The main features are actually the two shows that have previously been show on the BBC - "The Apprentice: Motormouths" and "The Apprentice: Worst Decisions Ever". While these shows are watchable, they are nearly not meaty enough. There is tonnes of hilarious and classic footage from past series that are not shown in these two shows.
br /
br /The 60 minutes of material exclusive to DVD are simply interviews with Nick and Margaret, and they also discuss their most memorable moments. And then there are audition clips featuring past and present (series 5) candidates.
br /
br /Overall, a very disappointing package. Come on BBC, give us complete series releases!
