Ian Flemings Bond! February 16, 2009 chuckles (Netherlands) 17 out of 21 found this review helpful
This biggest question with this film is `Is this a Bond movie?' In my opinion, it is how Bond was always supposed to be if you read the Ian Fleming novels. After many discussions with friends I think there will always be a difference of opinion. Many people expect the Bond movies to be like the Roger Moore incarnation, not early Connery and Dalton, while Craig is probably even grittier than even those two. I am actually a fan of this style. Ironically this movie is truer to the Fleming spirit than most other movies and it was not even based on one of his books. I agree however that this makes it stand out less from a Bourne movie or similar because of that. This movie carries on from Casino Royale, so re-watch that movie before seeing this if you can. I think the plot is complex, however no overly so, superbly acted and the action is excellent and quite believable. An excellent movie from start to finish, however don't expect gadgets, quips and humour.
Craig continues to impress February 17, 2009 Valleysboy 20 out of 25 found this review helpful
Make no mistake this is Bond on a bad day. He's on a mission and nothing will stop him, and it's a roller-coaster ride. Bond is ruthless and vicious and is delicious to see.

br /To the reviewers that claim this is not Bond, perhaps you should do some research and read some of the original novels that Fleming wrote. James Bond has a license to kill, so he is an assassin first and foremost. He will kill anyone who stands in the way of him completing his mission and it is good to see Bond finally growing up from a family film to a film for fans of the true Bond character. Believe it or not the Bond character of the original novels is actually more brutal than potrayed, or this would be an 18 certificate.
br /
br /Essentially though, if you liked Casino Royale, but felt at times the pace slowed (especially the love scenes near the end) then you'll apreciate this film for it's intrigues and action.
br /
br /The only big criticism is that the film isn't quite long enough, as I was thoroughly enjoying it and then it suddenly ended only 90 minutes or so in
br /
br /Still 5 stars though. Keep up the good work Mr. Craig!
better than bourne March 23, 2009 M. black (scotland) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
quantum of solace and casino royale before it have been accused of ripping of the bourne trilogy, but bond got their first and while not being as good as casino.. qos is still terrific stuff, with daniel craig once again proving he's a top bond,up their with timothy dalton as my favourite.in fact qos is very close in tone to the dark, violent and gritty licence to kill - my favourite bond film ever,so i was always going to like this.the action scenes are great, brutal and realistic and it looks stunning on blu ray.a must buy.
VERY GOOD August 30, 2009 AV1 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Acting as part 2 in the new James Bond series this story picks up just moments from where Casino Royale left us, with incredible actions scenes that don't have to rely on gadgets and a more 'human' Bond with feelings.
br /
br /Still hurting from the death of Vesper, James is motivated by revenge until he meets somebody else with a similar background looking for vengeance. A fairly short Bond pic with an often confusing plot but Craig has not yet outstayed his welcome, glad to see that the story continues rather than starts again like other Bond pics. Theme song is abysmal though, Jack White/Alicia Keyes - Another Way To Die is not exactly a classic Bond theme. However I look forward to part 3.

br /ABOUT THE DISC: This blu-ray version is one of the best visually BD's on the market. Sound is also clear. Extras are rather poor but are all featured on 1 disc unlike the DVD which is spread onto 2 discs. Highly reccomended.
Brooding,Brutal...Brilliant October 12, 2009 R. Carter (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Yep as usual, like this film vs Casino Royale, Daniel Craig vs Sean Connery, Connerys' toupee vs Roger Moores', there will no pleasing everyone. But straight off the bat I will agree there is some loose moments - and a lot of very clumsy, short editing going on (fight scenes mentioned mainly in reviews - but what about the start? you barely get more than a 2 second glimpse of the beautiful Aston Martin DBS!!?)
br /
br /But, I actually think such comments miss the point. Starting with a cracking re-working with Casino Royale, the new bond films present a fantastic and vibrant re-imagining - all the key "Bond criteria" is present but with two new and critical points - character development and story telling. Of course the majority of new Bond revisionists will argue that nothing will top Casino Royale (CR for future ref!!) but this film actually in some ways delivers more. CR is the new-laid foundation - but at the end you want to know more, not just in terms or what happens n ext, but what of Bond himself. So in QOS you actually see the cause and effect - not seen since "License to Kill" have we seen Bond driven by revenge - but thanks to the ever-skillful Daniel Craig we see more - yes, the film starts a bit full on and clumsy, but the delightful interchange between Bond and M early on set the mood. He tries to center himself, but is out of control - he is mourning, he is genuinely troubled - but angry at himself and at his betrayal - and this whole side of Bond is new to see and handled superbly by Craig.
br /
br /Like I said the craftwork of the film is not what I am focussed on - its how things develop. The cast is very strong - Denchs' M is so well realised, Jeffrey Wright is also excellent as the new and probably-the-best-ever Leiter, Kurlyenko also delivers some genuine depth and skill to what could easily be a one dimensional caricature and her characters' burning desire for revenge is so intense - it actually seems to perfectly balance out Craigs' vengeful yet out-of-control Bond.
br /Looking from this angle the film is strong - visually it is no less beautiful, some really striking scenes - the theatre scene is just amazing, the character development and interaction progress all the more (the last scene with Bond and Mathis is genuinely affecting - like NOTHING before in a Bond film)
br /
br /so to this end I think its an imperfect but in my opinion braver, deeper more considerate film even than the excellent CR. Which actually strives to look further into the Bond character and give greater depth to his protagonists too. Great stuff!!
