Amazon.co.uk Review Crass, narcissistic, and utterly oblivious to the pain, suffering, or even the reality of anyone outside of herself, Sarah Silverman--a character played by sly hipster comedienne Sarah Silverman (the standout in a crowded field of comedians in emThe Aristocrats/em)--tops the characters of emSeinfeld/em for dizzying comic insufferability. In the six episodes of emThe Sarah Silverman Program/em, Silverman goes on a cough-syrup-hallucination-fueled car ride, takes in a homeless man to prove her humanitarianism, founds an AIDS charity on the possibility that she emmight/em have AIDS, shepherds a little girl (the outstanding Laura Marano, emAre You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?/em) through the child beauty pageant that she lost in her own youth, explores lesbianism, and goes out for batteries. Every scenario, simple or absurd, is crammed thick with deranged (yet uncomfortably real) behaviour and over-the-top turns (such as when Silverman, having had an unfortunate moment while trying to pass gas, has her prayers answered by God...with whom she then has a one-night stand). The supporting cast (including Silverman's sister Laura Silverman, Jay Johnston, Steve Agee, and Brian Posehn) all have their own appalling moments, which they execute with aplomb. Silverman's humour offends some while inspiring rabid devotion in others. It's best to know what you're getting into before you watch it; jokes about abortion, homosexuality, terminal illness, and scatology abound, delivered with unrepentant enthusiasm and outright joy. Silverman, for all her taboo-breaking, just wants to make the world a funnier place. For her fans, she has succeeded.em--Bret Fetzer/em

| Customer Reviews: LOVE IT! June 15, 2009 kitty fisher (surrey, uk) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you love Sarah Silverman you'll love this. Silly and fun but edgy and clever too. Silverman plays the 'Sarah Silverman' character so well as she does in her stand up routines and the storylines are insane and hilarious. A must have for all Silverman fans.
I'd give it 10 stars if I could September 14, 2009 K. R. Jones Personally I think this show is one of the most consistently wonderful things on TV at the moment. Like Sarah's stand-up, it is definitely an acquired taste and the easily offended should just stay well clear.
br /
br /The central premise of the show is that Sarah's character thinks that the world revolves around her and she is constantly trying to make herself the centre of attention, often when other characters are really suffering. She does all this with a bluntness and innocence that is both cringeworthy and hilarious, and no-one else but Sarah could carry this off - her performance in "The Aristocrats" movie proved that.
br /
br /The supporting cast in the show are drawn from Sarah's real life friends. Even the little stray dog she took in makes an appearance. This helps to give the show a home-made kind of family atmosphere.

br /I first saw this show when I was living in the USA in 2007, it was awesome then and as I've re-watched the episodes on DVD I've grown to love it even more. The only other recent comedy series that has equalled SS's show for me is "Curb Your Enthusiasm"
br /
br /All in all, I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Roll on the release of season 2!
The sort of Show you watch hoping it'll get better... June 14, 2009 Choccycat (London, England) 2 out of 16 found this review helpful
Ok, she is cute us guys will watch it hoping she's funny too. Watched the whole season was left wishing I hadn't bothered. The 'jokes' are generally not as jokes like 'Scrubs' or 'Frasier' does, ie funny or worthwhile. Her jokes are cringeworthy attempts to use certain words phrases to try to shock. The 'V' word spoken repeatedly by her is a desperate attempt to be 'shocking' the other characters are lame too esp the 2 gay guys, one of which is a non-gay sitcom regular in many shows.
br /
br /Once you realise her real age (go IMDB for it) it's all a bit pathetic. The cast is mostly over 40 it looks like sad oldies trying to be groovy to impress the 'Youth'. One day she's a Lesbian, the next she thinks she has AIDS, another she insults Disabled people. The 'Car Bomb' episode probably the most pathetic. The only ray of hope was a short segment in the last episode. But the idea of her being cute drops to her being a bit feral in the end.
br /
br /The thing you'll find lacking here also is the fact none of the cast are LIKEABLE. Odd how the 5* review popped up so fast the only other review this 'person' done was 2 yrs ago! Go buy 30 Rock instead if you like modern TV comedy.
br /
br /I do wonder who'd actually enjoy this want to watch this miserable effort again.
