| Customer Reviews: A movie worth seeing! October 26, 2009 Diana (Casteau, Belgium-) This is a beautiful movie about the realities and challenges of life in Africa. It is the story of Anansa-a girl belonging to the Ashanti tribe,a doctor, married to an Englishman, also a doctor, and they work together for the World Health Organization.
br /While they were on a vaccination campaign in an African village she is kidnapped by slave traders, taken away through the jungle and desert on the ancient slave route.
br /It is to be noted a most stunning performance of Sir Peter Ustinov as Suleiman the slave trader-a beautiful performance-he has the accent and the body language of an old Arab.
br /Her husband's role is brilliantly performed by Michael Caine. He will do everything in his power to take his wife back and we will see him surpassing all the obstacles and hardships for the woman he loves.
br /A must see film, it helps us understand the tragedy of slavery and it puts into light the fact that slavery still exists today despite all efforts and tribulations.
A slow adventure tale not at all bad October 15, 2009 Andy B (Canada) A nice 2.35.1 letter box copy, which makes up for the awful pan scan copies previously released. Also this seems to be the uncut version which has some added violence that I'm sure was removed from previous versions.

br /A well acted movie, although Mr.Caine did appear to be doing this 1 by the numbers as such?
br /
br /Some nice cameo appearances from Rex Harrison, William Holden Omar Sharif, although the real star in my opinion was Kabir Bedi, he did kind of steal the film away.
br /
br /A little slow maybe a product of it's time where video was becoming the new thing films in theaters had to try to make a mark, I think this 1 failed.

This is another good film not giving a proper treatment ! July 16, 2009 Andrew Lee (HONG KONG) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The aspect ratio is actually 2.35:1 letterbox non-anamorphic and not 4:3 as specified at the back cover of DVD. The audio is in 2.0 stereo without any subtitle. The colour seems a little faded but the images look quite sharp throughout the movie. All you have in the menu are only scene selection and a trailer, nothing more. The beautiful scenery and landscape could have been presented so good in anamorphic, taking 1 star rating away for it. Taking away another 2 stars for no subtitles and no extras. By the way, the film is rated 12 on the disc instead of 15 as indicated on the website. If you love the film, it is still worth buying considering there are not much choice on the present market.
