Will Smith's best yet? June 2, 2009 The usual suspect 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Seven Pounds is an odd film to review since by saying a little bit too much results in ruining it.
br /I did wonder if it would be worth watching again but now I have it, yes it is. Will Smith is on top form and in serious actor mode. The film itself is one of those that you don't really have a clue what's going on for much of it. But in the end all is revealed and it's all worth watching for. If you like Crash, you love this. It's a tremendous storyline and probably his best film in my opinion but others may differ.
br /The BD is top quality with a great picture and TrueHD (although the soundtrack doesn't mean a lot in this title).
br /Highly recommended.
DO NOT READ THE REVIEW FROM "PARENT" IT REVEALS THE WHOLE PLOT, AND SPOILS THE SURPRISES. May 30, 2009 Diana King (Effingham, Surrey) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you do not want to have all surprises and plot revealed then please don't read "parent"'s review, it will ruin it for you.
Will Smith Keeps Getting Better and Better, Emotional Storyline May 1, 2009 Mr. P. A. Esson (Cape Town) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
Without spoiling too much this is a very careful treatment of a very complicated and emotional subject. If you could change or save the lives of 7 other 'worthy' people by killing yourself and donating your organs, would you? could you?
br /
br /Will Smith plays a highly intelligent but emotionally fragile character who having caused the death of 7 people in an Road Traffic Accident, one of which was his beautiful fiance, goes about selecting 7 good people in various states of terminal illness to receive his organs upon his death (by suicide).
br /
br /For most of the film we see him collating the details of tissue matched patients and assessing whether they are good enough to be one of the 7.
br /
br /Now I'm a 200 pound 46 year old average bloke, but I got very emotional many times during this film, the subject matter being so heart rending and the acting being so well balanced and at no point over played.
br /
br /In one scene we see Will Smith's character being extremely rude and obnoxious over the phone to Woody harrelson's character, a blind potential recipient of his eyes, in an attempt to test whether he is a suitable 'good' person. The pain in Will's face after terminating the call was a fair and real reflection of the emotional weight of the selection process he was putting himself through.
br /
br /Not the ending that I expected but all the better for it (and don't read too much into that). Let's just say that in my opinion this is a must have disk whether in blueray, DVD or any other format and after other exceptional performances in films like 'Ali', 'Legend' or 'The Pursuit of Happyness', it can only be a matter of time before the Academy of Motion Pictures recognises his contribution with more than just a nomination.
Seven Pounds, Blu-Ray September 15, 2009 Spider Monkey (UK) `Seven Pounds' is one of those films that is hard to review without giving anything away. It is a modern day weepy with a twist and has excellent performances from all involved. I'm a fan of Will Smith, but even taking that into account he still acts brilliantly in this film. You can work out the plot fairly quickly, but that doesn't stop you from being affected at the end and being mildly shocked by a few extra twists that are thrown in for good measure. In fact it shows how good the film is that you are left affected despite guessing the ending. Even with the overall feeling of sadness that colours this film and leaving you emotionally overwrought at the end, it still has a positive message about life and encourages you to go out and think about your relationships and outlook on things. A top film with superb acting from the whole cast. Well worth checking out.
You'll Feel 7 Emotions During This Movie November 8, 2009 DL Productions UK (Merseyside, UK) Will Smith is an IRS officer Ben Thomas, he's trying to find people he needs to audit as part of his job, and when he meets Emily Posa (Rosario Dawson), he falls in love with her. The only problem is that Ben isn't who he claims he is, and he doesn't know what he can do for the best, his past is so dark, but could his future be light, or could it just be another disaster, which has filled his life since that day 7 people died as he was at the wheel of a car?

br /This is an amazing film directed by Gabriele Muccino, who has worked with Smith before on The Pursuit Of Happyness, and the pair really seem to work well. His supporting cast were amazing too, especially Woody Harleson as the blind guy Ezra, and Rosario for her role as Emily. The film just feels you with so much emotion it's incredible - this is unusual from a Hollywood movie. If you thought Love Story was heart wrenching, you should watch this. Everything from fear, anger, resentment, love, sadness, enlightenment and happiness will fill you during the 2hrs this runs, this is how powerful the writing is, and well accompanied by the filming and direction.
br /
br /This Blu-Ray is amazing too, and again shows Sony are the kings of High Def. The quality is breath taking and smooth, with an MPEG 4 video, you'll be astounded by the quality of this picture. All the colours look really crisp and clear, and the tones, shades and contours look good. The sound is amazing too, delivered in 5.1, even an audio descriptive channel, which actually uses the 5.1 system too! The dialogue is clear and the sound is like the band were next to you in the living room.
br /
br /The extras are interesting too, with a featurette "7 Views on 7 Pounds", where 7 members of the crew are interviewed about the movie; a few extra deleted scenes and commentaries from Gabriele Muccino make this a must-own Blu.
br /
br /I'm sorry if I've gushed a lot about this movie, but it's really been a good watch, and I'm about to order it, as I don't think renting it is enough, I will want to see this again and again.
br /
br /A clear masterpiece, one of the top ten films of the naughties.
