Amazon.co.uk Review IThe Secret Of Moonacre/I is a charming adaptation of Elizabeth Goudgersquo;s novel IThe Little White Horse/I. Starring IThe Golden Compassrsquo;/I Dakota Blue Richards, she plays young teenage orphan Maria Merryweather, who inherits a single book from her father. p That book, however, is the catalyst to what happens next in IThe Secret Of Moonacre/I, as the story bursts to life, throwing Maria into the middle of a feud between two families, the Merryweathers and the De Noirs. As she eventually makes her way through the book, Maria understands what she needs to do, and realises that the fate of Moonacre Valley could well be in her hands. p Co-starring Tim Curry, Ioan Gruffudd, Natascha McElhone and Juliet Stevenson, IThe Secret Of Moonacre/I does take a little time to warm up, with a tepid first act not the best of beginnings. But then the the steady hand of director Gabor Csupo--previously responsible for the underrated IBridge To Terabithia/I--kicks in, and things soon pick up. Csuporsquo;s movie boasts striking visuals and genuinely impressive production values, and while it doesnrsquo;t quite match his earlier film, it still emerges as solid family entertainment thatrsquo;s been well realised. Whatrsquo;s more, Dakota Blue Richards does her credentials no harm at all either, turning in another impressive performance that eases the film through its weaker moments. Recommended. ndash;-IJon Foster/I

the secret of moonacre June 19, 2009 rufus b (som uk) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Saw this film at the cinema recently with my 3 children and thought it a captivating film for both young and old. A magical cast and twisted script kept this film exciting all the way through.
Charming Family Film June 21, 2009 CalUni (Ireland) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Having not read 'The Little White Horse' by Elizabeth Goudge, upon which this film is based, I went in without any expectation, only a love and curiousity for fantasy films whenever they are released.

br /Moonacre proved to be an absolute treat, with a real sense of wonder and magic as the story unfolded, aided by a beautiful, truly accomplished score by Christian Henson.

br /It's a real shame some reviewers and critics have been so savagely critical of this film. It is so innocent and harmless, you'd want to be pretty cynical to attack a family film featuring a unicorn, an enchanted forest and a cast both engagingly silly and sincere. It's such a fun movie, although not for everyone I admit.

br /If you are in touch with your childhood self and enjoy old-fashioned storytelling that the whole family can enjoy (in the vein of 'Chronicles of Narnia', 'The Wolves of Willoughby Chase' 'The Secret Garden'), then give Secret of Moonacre a chance. It may very well surprise you in the nicest possible way.
Very charming family movie December 9, 2009 Jessica (Bilthoven Netherlands) First: I have not read the book. Maybe that is why I did not have any expectations of this movie and I really liked it.

br /It is a very charming family film (I think girls will like it more than boys), with magic and beautiful music. It is like a fairytale. The story is maybe a bit rushed and sometimes simple and do not expect a very exciting adventure. It is fantasy-like and the surroundings and costumes are wonderful. I liked Maria (very-well played by Dakota Blue Richards) and the ending was great. Also, the song at the end makes a great finish to this film ('Stars' by Caroline Lost)and a great soundtrack.

Lovely film January 9, 2010 MamEmily (South Yorkshire, UK) My 9 year old really liked this and I've got to say so did I. Ok there are things you can pick fault with, such as a certain main character can't act for toffee, but overall it is a great film. It's got everything you'd need for a fairytale - baddies, wolves, magic, big moon, unicorns. In fact we saw it at the cinema and I bought this copy for my 25 yr ld daughter - who also loved it.
Fantastic August 14, 2009 Lol (Barnsley) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I loved this film. If you like films like The Golden Compass you will like this film.
