Amazon.co.uk Review For the third series of iRobin Hood/i, the BBC proves itself more willing than ever to muddle around with the common perception of the story that underpins it. By the time we pick the action up, Marian has been dead for several months, and we find Robin in vengeful mood. Returning from the Holy Land, hersquo;s hell-bent on taking down Guy Of Gisborne, but as yoursquo;d expect, things donrsquo;t quite go the way that you might expect. p Elsewhere, this third series brings in Friar Tuck, and Robin crosses paths with a new face in his life, Kate. Yet the joy of iRobin Hood/i is in the returning characters. Jonas Armstrong in the title role has grown into the part well, even if the scripts have him dealing with the aftermath of Marianrsquo;s death a little quicker than yoursquo;d have thought. But itrsquo;s Keith Allen as the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham that has a habit of ritually stealing scenes, while Richard Armitage as Guy Of Gisborne is quite superb, and arguably the highlight. Itrsquo;s a strong ensemble cast that underpins the show, and by this third series, itrsquo;s clear that theyrsquo;re having a whale of a time. p Series three of iRobin Hood/i isnrsquo;t perfect, and sometimes the writing feels a little underwhelming. But even in its weaker moments, such is the strength of the cast that itrsquo;s hard not to get a generous dose of entertainment from each episode. Itrsquo;s shameless blockbuster Saturday night viewing, and all the better for it. --iJon Foster/i

Series 3! June 28, 2009 Kayleigh (Scotland) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I have to admit my rating is a little bit biased as I would give anything with the gorgeous Richard Armitage in it 5 stars. The man is sex on legs and I could write this whole review about his smile, his voice, the black leather clothes, the fact that he plays a baddie who could be good if he wanted to...You get the idea.
br /However I have been a fan of Robin Hood since the very first episode, even before I set eyes on gorgeous Guy of Gisborne, and I couldn't wait for the third series to start. Historically accurate it ain't, and it could have been written better, but it has always been enjoyable Saturday evening TV.
br /I don't think this series is as good as the previous two and the new characters haven't brought much to it; Tuck is neither fat nor funny, and I found Kate to be a mildly annoying Marian wannabe. I do like Isabella and the unhinged Prince John though. Unfortunately the brilliant Keith Allen as the Sheriff is missing for most of the series, but that just makes his reappearance in the finale even more explosive (no pun intended).
br /Robin Hood has always been a bit predictable - someone in Nottingham is causing trouble, Robin and co try to help the villagers, one of the outlaws gets captured, Robin and co manage to rescue them in the nick of time, and everyone lives to fight another day. That all changes at the end of this series though.
br /It's been known for a while that Jonas Armstrong would hang up his bow and arrow at the end of series three, so the ending is not entirely unexpected, although it is still very emotional. A fourth series may be in the pipeline, but I think the BBC should quit while they're ahead, considering that the majority of characters have been blown up, stabbed, or poisoned, and only a handful of the original cast members remain.
br /This series may not have been as good as the previous two, but it is still worth a look at, especially the brilliant final episode.
Richard Armitage is the only thing that makes this worth watching May 12, 2009 Mrs. Angela H. Smith (Essex) 25 out of 30 found this review helpful
I do miss Marian in series 3, but for me it has always been about watching Richard Armitage in it. He is a top class actor who does wonders with the badly written work he is given.

br /He makes gold out of the dross. I love the addition of Toby Stephens for this season too. It is nice to see two actors on screen in it that can actually act. Lara Pulver is also a nice addition to the cast, but Marian is not easily replaced.
Series 3 July 8, 2009 A. Johnson 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I love Robin Hood and always have since like, series 1. So I was really excited for this series (even if Marian, Djaq and Will were missing)
br /I've gotta say that Tuck and Kate were a bit pointless in my opinion, and Kate got slightly annoying by the end with the crying and whinging, and more since Robin shouldn't really have gone on about always loving Marian just to move on to Kate that quickly.
br /But, as with other reviewers, I have to say Gisborne completely carried this whole series, and even though I've always liked his character, by the end I was practically in love (lol) and watching the show was mainly through seeing his character progress. I have to say seeing the Sheriff and Gisbornes fight cracks me up every time and has to be one of the best fight scene's I've ever seen, and the moment he has with Meg is another one of the best parts of any of the series' so far.
br /The last episodes were really good too (I cried) and even though I think the connection between Robin and Gisborne was left a little too late for the explaination, it was a nice... twist? Sort of twist anyway. I gotta say though, Keith Allen wasn't in it enough (he made me laugh a lot) and Prince John was pretty funny, even if very very camp and basically the lion from the Disney film in human form.
br /Anyway, I say 5 stars for not just this, but all the series together. Its a really great programme, and its one of those light hearted, feel good Saturday night TV shows that the BBC should make more of (since this is now done; there's only Doctor Who and Tennant's leaving and Merlin - which is okay, but not as good as RH really) So yeah... =] Pretty good overall.
Excellent... May 30, 2009 S. Jones 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I miss Marian. She added a twang of romance into the film. Now, I feel there are too many girls on the scene. I don't like Lady isabella - how she keeps chopping and changing her mind about liking Robin is cringeworthy. I do like Kate though.
br /The adventures are the best in this series. I love the one where Prince John wants to be king and Robin steps in at the last moment. Richard Armitage is a fab actor. He makes an excellent sly Gisbourne...
br /I do find some bits are tacky though. How robin escapes so easily out of sticky situations is often far-fetched. I do enjoy watching the nail-biting sword fights and arguments though. Well done!
Robin Hood - a mature review - with no hidden agendas July 5, 2009 Robert wagner (U.K) 4 out of 10 found this review helpful
many of the reviews on here are either written by Richard Armitage fans with hidden agendas who think if they knock the show but praise Richard so he stands out that somehow he will confess his undying love for them. or others who are so obsessed with the first 2 series they cant except change(no marian in most of the series) and are therefore blinded by the quality and new depth that series 3 has found because of said change. others including the above mentioned are venting there immature anger over certain revelations in this series of their favourite characters...but for those of you who want to just watch a quality TV series and don't care about fan clubs etc and want to be entertained by a quality adventure series buy this DVD

br /the previous series of Robin Hood was o.k but not great-like watching a boy band music video. it lacked a little detail ,action adventure swashbuckling and most of all substance but Series 3 has really raised the bar.it is fabulous on all levels .heaps of drama, great cinematography great new period costumes and a great engaging story from start to finish.
br /
br /the costumes are now authentic and so much to the world and the scripts and stories are a lot more engaging and hard hitting and as a result more entertaining.Robin Hood is darker and angry after the death of Marian and you are in for one hell of a ride through this new series leading up to a fantastic 2 part climax to the end of the season
br /
br /the acting in this series is fantastic with Richard Armitage brilliant as the Brooding Guy of Gisbourn who has to somewhat reevaluate his position throughout this series as is Toby Stevens who really brings Prince John to life like a spoilt school boy in charge of the country.David Harewood a fine addition playing an original take on Friar Tuck. Also brilliant is the mysterious Archer played by the very Handsome and Swashbuckling Clive Standen later in the series. not to mention some stand out guest roles throughout the series but i don't want to give too much away
br /
br /the series takes you on a real emotional rollacoster and you will not be disappointed with the ride
br /
br /its rare you get adventure series of this quality.. and it doesn't matter if your 7yrs old or 70yrs old this series really is not to be missed (the last 4 episodes are without a doubt must see TV and that alone is worth buying this box set)

br /***As a foot note the DVD extras on this DVD are pretty cool to!! ***
