Granted, itrsquo;s been tough to keep the standard up to the levels of the show at its finest, but here we find some majestic and inspired Simpsons moments. p Season 12 doesnrsquo;t have, it should noted, the calibre of guest voice star of previous runs. That said, itrsquo;s still the core adventures of Homer, Maggie, Lisa, Marge and Bart that form the heart of the fun. Particular favourite highlights of IThe Simpsons/Irsquo; twelfth season include Lisarsquo;s relationship with the tree hugger, Homerrsquo;s brand new gossip website, the moment where Homer suddenly (and temporarily!) gets a burst of intelligence, and the wonderfully titled IWorst Episode Ever/I. Therersquo;s also the very welcome return of Sideshow Bob, as voiced by Kelsey Grammar. p The writing of IThe Simpsons/I, as evidenced here, remains witty and sharp, and while perhaps there arenrsquo;t so many of the belly laughs of the earlier years, season 12 still more than justifies its purchase price. At least half the episodes here are ones yoursquo;ll be looking, wersquo;d suspect, to watch again. Factor in too the usual high quality selection of extras, and long after most series have folded, we continue to find IThe Simpsons/I on fine form. --IJon Foster/I

Surely the greatest comedy show ever and with the quality and popularity they've had for around two whole decades they are in a league of their own. They had a lot of seasons where practically every episode was top notch. As many others have pointed out though, once they got past season 9 and 10 the quality started to wane. The best episodes aren't as good as the best episodes in earlier seasons; there's a lower proportion of top quality to less than top quality episodes; and the poorer episodes are poorer than the poorer episodes of earlier seasons. As time has gone on these trends have continued in that direction. This is entirely understandable given the vast amount of themes and issues already explored, and cultural references and jokes already used. br /For all that, season 12 still has loads of very good episodes and lots of good stuff in the less than great episodes. Certainly it will be added to my collection. I'm not sure if there'll come a point where I think enough's enough, but I'm certainly not there yet and I don't think I will be for at least another couple of seasons after this one. It remains to be seen though whether I can refrain from buying the boxsets after that - I'm feeling pot-committed collection-wise already so I'll probably buy everything they ever release. Thankfully it's not dilemma time yet though, because as I've said, this is a very good season and well worth buying to continue a collection or as a stand-alone season. Worst Packaging Ever! (Excuse the pun) October 2, 2009 James Drinkell (UK) Urr. Where to start. Well, firstly, mine arrived 4 days after dispatch, crushed. Sent it back, and bought it from Morrisons instead. br / br /This truely is the worst simpsons boxset packaging ever thought of. Its worse than the Season 11 packaging, and that wasnt great. You still have the challange of getting the discs out, without scratching them, or tearing your box. The box itself feels cheap and a bit naff.Inside the box, (if you can open it without breaking it), is the same type of layout seen in season 11. Excellent artwork, and a cool little book. br / br /The episodes are fine, dont listen to the haters. Yes, maybe not as good as the good old days, but still worth it. br / br /The main thing that ruins it is the packaging. In the words on Comic book guy, " i was on the internet registering my disgust within minutes". Beautiful packing that damaged the discs September 30, 2009 catfordvi (Forest Hill, London) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful I really like this season and it has some of my favourite episodes; HOMR, Worst Episode Ever and the sublime Trilogy of Error. br / br /The packing is gorgeous - the crimson outer box is lovely and the discs are held in a separate, six-fold concertina which is wonderfully decorated with scenes of a Springfield sci-fi convention. br / br /However, there is an issue with the packing. Having lived with it for a few days, I realise that almost everything about the cover and sleeves ensures they're going to get damaged themselves and cause damage to the discs. br / br /The outer box is of quite thin card and it's going to need supreme care not to crush and crease it. There's a fold-in flap that I'm having to leave open if I don't want to crease the box taking the inner packing out. br / br /What people say about the inner box is true; it's a chore and scratches the discs. When I took them out the first time, all 4 discs were scratched already. In pulling one disc out, I scratched the playing side badly on the edge of the adjacent disc (this is possible because each pair of discs comes out edge first from a slot on either side of a fold in the concertina). Lastly, the tightness of each 'wallet' makes it hard to get a grip on the disc when trying to get it out. You either have to bend and crease the wallet or use your finger or nail on the surface of the disc to get a grip on it, guaranteed to grease or scratch it. br / br /The scratched disc seems to play ok but I was very lucky not to have ruined it. I honestly feel I was careful with the packaging because I'd seen a warning about it elsewhere. br / br /Many of the episodes in this set are good to great. But the packaging ensures that both it and the contents are going to be damaged. br / br /Overall, I have to give this set 2 stars. Good episodes, lovely looking artwork, but incomprehensible design.
