Editorial Reviews: Amazon.co.uk Review Ostensibly a funny animated film about a dog who thinks he has superpowers, emBolt/em is also a movie about friendship, perseverance, and the power of believing in oneself. Everyone knows that superheroes on television are not real, but TV star super dog Bolt (John Travolta) is a canine star who was carefully raised to believe that he really possesses superpowers. In true loyal canine style, Bolt is completely devoted to his human co-star Penny (Miley Cyrus). When Penny is captured by the evil Dr. Calico (Malcolm McDowell) in their latest television episode and Bolt gets accidentally let loose in the real world, he sets off on a journey to save her. Bolt is confounded when his super powers are suddenly ineffective, but inspiration strikes and Bolt quickly discovers the mysterious, power-stealing effects of Styrofoam packing peanuts. An encounter with alley cat Mittens (Susie Essman) gives Bolt some eye-opening lessons about being a real dog in the real world, while star-struck, ball-enclosed hamster Rhino (Mark Walton) revels in the opportunity to serve as Bolt's sidekick in the quest to rescue Penny. The trio traverses the United States from waffle house to waffle house on a hysterical quest to find Penny and prove that the relationship between Penny and Bolt is real. In the end, Bolt, Mittens, and Rhino learn that everyone is special in their own way and they discover the true power of believing in oneself and one's friends. Selected cinemas showed emBolt /emin 3-D, but the film is probably equally enjoyable in the traditional format. June 15, 2009 Dragonlord (Cornwall) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful My daughter was three years old when I took her to see Bolt at the cinema and it was a really magical experience for both of us. She is now four years old and we have both been looking forward to seeing Bolt on Blu-ray alot and as with all Disney films the Blu-ray transfar is excellent. At the start of the film you think Bolt is some type of terminator dog with all is strength and super powers. Bolt goes on the run looking for a girl called Penny only to find out he doesn't have all these super powers and is part of a really big tv show in Hollywood. It takes Bolt a while to work this out on his very funny adventure where he meets a street wise cat called Mittens and a hilarious hamster called Rhino. John Travolta does great voice acting as Bolt and the voice acting in general is very good. Bolt is a film in which children and adults will really enjoy and should not be missed. Totally Awesome! The hamster is the star of the show and it's worth a look for adults and children. It's a nice change from all the animated cheese we get and has some great lines that the kids probably won't get. I don't think Bolt deserves any criticisms. br /Bolt tells a great story which reminded me of the Truman Show, but with Bolt a movie star dog playing the lead. The Hamster stole the show for me. br / br /I like a film that I can sit down with my wife and five year old son, on the sofa, bag of sweets, Dolby Digital on and not have to worry about anything offensive. br /Bolt delivered a great film with an amazing HD picture and sound, It`s as good a Wall.E and Madagascar, a great film for my boys collection. Witcombe 2 out of 7 found this review helpful Bought the blu-ray, DVD and digital bundle from Amazon US, obviously worked out a little more expensive but arrived quite quickly and seven year old could get to watch it weeks before the UK release. br /She loved it at the cinema and loves it in HD. br /Word of warning you will not be able to play the blu-ray disc on a UK region player (I knew this before hand). br /The bundle sold in the US comes with a digital copy for your PC as well so you get three discs in total, for me a better deal than a soft toy. br / br /So ... great family movie your little one will want to watch over and over again (and will make you smile as well). great film very funny April 29, 2009 A.
