Amazon.co.uk Review When a dog wriggles his adorable rear end into a human's life, the human will never be the same. And both Marley, the dog, and iMarley Me/i, the movie, manage to endear themselves deeply despite a few wee flaws. Readers of the John Grogan bestseller already know the raffish charm of the incorrigible yellow lab puppy, Marley, adopted by Grogan and his wife because she's "never seen anything more adorable in my life." But Grogan's simple tale of love, in all its forms, shines on the big screen, thanks to deft comic turns by Jennifer Aniston--in top form here--and Owen Wilson. Their chemistry is utterly natural and believable as Marley's owners, as is their interaction with the very naughty but ultimately irresistible Marley. As Marley grows up, the film follows his escapades--flunking out, spectacularly, from puppy training at the hands of a wickedly funny Kathleen Turner. And as Marley grows up, John and Jenny build their life together and weather some tough emotional blows. Like iMy Dog Skip/i, which it resembles in its affection for its subject, iMarley Me/i is a tear-jerker, but in the sweetest, most lovely way--because it, and its four-legged star, have wriggled into our hearts. Good boy. i--A.T. Dog Lovers Love it other may not get it August 3, 2009 Casdon (East Midlands (UK)) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Let get this out of the way, to have written a book on your life with your dog is strange enough, especially if you weren't really that famous worldwide.
br /
br /To make it into a film is lunacy!
br /
br /Unless you are a film house knowing the amount of people that have and love dogs then you are basically a cynical movie mogul
br /
br /The truth is if you are a dog lover you'll laugh at the shared experiences of an unrulely hound, you'll wince at the shared embarrasment of the public exhibitions of your lack of control you'll share the grief of the inevitable day when you have to say goodbye.
br /
br /The beauty in this film is that it doesn't pretend to be anything else than the life story of a dog who happens to be bestowed upon two very unprepared owners and much as parents learn with their first child we all learn with our first dog.
br /
br /This is a heartwarming and funny journey through someone else's hell to paradise to the heartrending days that all follow pet ownership.
br /
br /As a BR disc its not a bad transfer, the sound is good.
br /
br /Overall a good film if you love this subject, if you don't ... just avoid.
Love those labradors!! August 4, 2009 Jane Booth (Derby, England) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having read and enjoyed John Grogan's book I was really looking forward to seeing this movie and anything with Jennifer Aniston in it is OK by me. But although I did enjoy it, somehow it didn't quite "do it" for me. I'm not sure why. I adore labradors and having been through a similar experience with my own some years ago I was expecting to cry buckets at the end, but I didn't (not like me at all!). And Owen Wilson's acting was a little too bland for my taste. But what do I know? Buy it anyway and enjoy it for what it is - a heartwarming story.
