| Customer Reviews: Fantastic Film - Great Transfer August 29, 2009 J. Bergin (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Fantastic film, but I'm sure that if you're bothering to read this review, you'll already be well aware of that. The script is certainly one of Tarantino's finest, and the direction is superb. As for the quality of the transfer, it's everything you'd expect from a transfer of a film that's over 15 years old. In terms of visual quality, it's not on a par with some of the more recent films, such as Kill Bill, but that's the case universally and I wouldn't expect anything more. It looks better than ever and sounds better than ever. The special features are nice, I particularly enjoyed Tarantino's audio commentary. If you like the film and have taken to Blu-Ray as a format, this certainly deserves a place in your collection.
True Romance looks good on Blu-ray! July 22, 2009 steven (UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The film is about a comic book store worker (Slater) and a (new to the game) call girl (Arquette) They fall in love and go on the run from the local thugs with a briefcase of stolen cocaine. It's more complicated then that and this is Tarantino so expect sex, bad language and very strong violence. The movie is like a live action comic book (think Wanted only better) and check that cast out! Val Kilmer, Brad pitt, Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walkin amongst others! So, what's the Blu-ray transfer like? Well, it's really good. The picture is sharp with no speckles, very little grain and bright engaging colours. This is definitely the best the film has ever looked and I was really pleased with the transfer. It's not demo material and it's not as good as the best Blu-ray discs on the market (think Disney) but it's definitely worth the upgrade. You can notice the stuble on Slater's face and a scar on Patricia's forehead that I've never seen before. The sound is excellent. Picture 3.5/5 Sound 4/5
