awesome camera work and editing July 13, 2009 Nym (UK) 6 out of 13 found this review helpful
OK this film does not deserve the same 5stars that Donnie did but what do you expect? BUT, it does not deserve the 1-2 star ratings either.
br /
br /Plot wise - we have almost identical storyline/plot as Donnie - nothing new there - so 3 stars for failing to take the original further.
br /
br /Acting - not as tight as Donnie but not completely bad either - acting is about 4 stars to be honest
br /
br /Now the best bit of this film - the camera work and editing in this film is superior to Donnie. Camera angles, zooms, play with speed motion etc. all much better than Donnie. For this reason alone it deserves 5 stars but put in the rest and this is a 4 star film that does not live up to the original but is not a complete waste of time either.
br /
br /If you like films for their stories then stick with Donnie - if you like some of the more technical details about films such as camera work etc then this film is a pretty good film.
Unfairly looked down on - Loved it July 28, 2009 D. Edwards (UK) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
So as soon as I saw the TV ad I went out and looked up reviews and didnt find a good one above them. knowing that I usually disagree with the critics I checked it out and honestly have to say I loved it.
br /
br /Dont look at it as a sequel as such but more of another connecting story. I.e. there will be no more answers to what the first movie had to say or anything like that.
br /
br /The soundtrack is incredible, the camera work beautiful and if you can stand the fact that the actors are typical 'perfect' looking teens (ok so ones hot the rest annoy me) then its worth a shot.
br /
br /The storyline is a bit complicated but not all that bad if you dont try and work everything out as you watch it, just let it come to you. In fact i even noticed a few things the second time through that explained a bit.
br /
br /I loved it, the first was better, as is normally the case but thats no reason to slate this film.

br /Judge for yourself...
a lot better than I thought July 13, 2009 Mr. P. dobson (newcastle) 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
Got to admit I watched it with very low expectations but found it quite enjoyable. It was an interesting spin on things to switch the living receiver' and 'manipulated dead' roles around.
br /
br /Essentially Sam plays the role that Frank played in the first film whilst the role that Donnie played goes to a side character called Iraq Jack.
br /
br /More emphasis is played on the role of time travel as well with the plot moving frequently forwards and backwards in time.
Darko revival September 25, 2009 G. Portheine (Holland) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
S.Darko attracted me because I liked Donnie Darko. And the feel of the movie is the same. It is clear that "Donnie" was thoroughly analysed by the production crew. And then Briana and Daveigh are beautiful young actresses well worth watching.
br /Off course the story doesn't add up. All the elements are there but they failed to knit it together. Still I liked watching the valiant effort to recreate Donnie Darko's universe (if that is at all possible) and will watch it again.
Did It Really Need A Sequel? July 26, 2009 Ms. J. F. Gilby (bexhill, uk) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Donnie Darko was a cult classic for it's odd plot, outstanding pefomances from upcoming actors and actress and the hit song Mad World being a Christmas number 1 for a while. When I heard that they were making a sequel, I was a little annoyed as it really didn't need one but would be willing to check it out at home. The story is of Sam, the youngest sister of Donnie, going on a road trip with her friend Corey, only for their car to break down. Stuck in a dead-end town, they meet with all sorts of characters only to have the same sort of event happening again with the world coming to a end in four days only this time without the scary looking rabbit prejecting the future. It was okay, had a much happier ending than Donnie Darko, but like one reviewer did it really need a sequel? It has some stunning sights and alright pefomances from the young cast but I wasn't too overkeen with it. Recommened only if you are a fan of Donnie Darko and is intrested in the sequel, if you are a fan of the orginal and not sure about this avoid as it's not really the same without the lead (Jake Gyllehaal) being in it.
