| Customer Reviews: It doesn't have to be loud to be scary... August 13, 2009 Chinatown Blue (S-O-T, UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
If I'd read the other two reviews before I watched this, I might not have bought it. But I did, and I'm damn glad I did buy it. This is a top-notch film; atmospheric rather than brutally gory, with a sensitive and appropriate score rather than some pounding anachronistic rock tracks, it is beautifully shot and superbly acted. So what if the cast are unknowns? The greatest stars start out unknown. This film relies on a slowly building story of creeping horror, rather than rubbing your face in entrails from the start, making a few points about the old pioneer days on the way, so if you want a gory no-brainer or torture porn, look elsewhere. If you want a monster movie that actually makes you think about the story, watch this.
Very nearly a genuinely good film. July 22, 2009 genejoke (uk) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
western, horror not the most obvious combination but basically its a horror set to western times. This is fine it gives the film an explanation of why not just drive off/call for help etc. The actual supernatural menace is ok, but somehow the whole thing lacks the fear/tension it needs to be a successful horror. The acting and production are all pretty good and the idea is solid it just lacks the fear factor.
