Quietly suspenseful.... October 4, 2009 Miss K (UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I knew absolutely nothing about this film before watching it and that's the best way to experience this particular film I think!!
br /
br /The film is primarily suspense/mystery but it's also a drama, romance and thriller; there are elements of eerieness which really caught me off guard! It got my attention very quickly and managed to hold it to the very end. It's an interesting, unusual film that will have you periodically wondering what the film is actually about! It's not a loud action-packed film but more of a quiet film that will unfold in its own time and it's definitely worth the wait - I liked the way the story and the characters developed and I was quite moved by the end of the film which was unexpected!
br /
br /I don't even remember seeing a trailer for this film so don't let this one fly by under your radar - it's a satisfying treat of a film! Highly recommended!
Great slow burning mystery August 6, 2009 S. Smith (UK) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
The Passengers is a great movie that will probably go a bit unnoticed as it holds back on special effects and opts for a slow boil of tension and mystery.
br /
br /Anne Hathaway plays a counsellor who is sent to look after 10 survivors of a plane crash. The survivors are all in a state and one of them refuses to attend the group sessions and opts for one on one visits (cue the romance). However when the passengers start to have conflicting stories, Anne turns to the airline whom say they are all in shock and warns her away from fishing about. Following that one by one the passengers disappear and that's when things really get interesting.
br /
br /The ending was a triple twist finale and the final scenes are particularly well done. It's mystical and mysterious but still moving.
br /
br /I'd recommend this film to people who enjoy character driven stories with an element of the other world as I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Amazing!!!!! August 7, 2009 G. Nicholson 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This film is about a woman trying to find out what truly happened on a plane crash where all the survivors have different versions of what went on. I found this film really drew me in and would recommend it to anyone who likes films that get you thinking and draw you in. I loved the twist at the end, you definitely didn't see it coming which makes the ending much better. I will be buying this on dvd because I think this is a amazing film. In my opinion it is a must see film for people who like films that keep you gripped on what's happening till the very end.
"...I Know You From Somewhere..." October 7, 2009 Mark Barry at Revival Records, West End (London, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've watched so many films this year - and the really good ones you can count on two hands - "Passengers" is one of them.
br /
br /At first it's a little frustrating as Anne Hathaway struggles with her therapist assignment - five men and women who've survived a crash-landed jet on American soil. They may or may not have acquired powers because of the crash - and people and odd things appear around them? Or perhaps the airline is being less than truthful about its planes and their maintenance records when she confronts them (David Morse)? Why is Patrick Wilson (one of the bloodied survivors who has recovered remarkably quickly) so determined to woe and date Anne? And why do others around Anne now want all manner of things from her - her boss wants a speedy report put in (Andre Braugher) - the suddenly way too friendly neighbor (Dianne Wiest)?
br /
br /To say too much is to give too much away, and I wouldn't want to spoil it - suffice to say - like many other reviewers, I was strangely moved by this film.
br /
br /"Passengers" is directed by Rodrigo Garcia - the same man who brought us the brilliant Gabriel Byrne psychiatrist drama "In Treatment" - currently building up a huge set of admirers on Sky Arts HD.
br /
br /Hire this movie and bear with it - it's a gem in a sea of mediocrity.
Deeply moving September 19, 2009 Becky I.O.W 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
A film that not only captivates but leaves a lasting impression and in some ways affects you emotionally, is in my opinion a rarity. This film does exactly that.
br /
br /There are some really symbolic moments throughout the film that you don't quite understand until the end, and what an ending it is.
br /
br /Outstanding.
