5 out of 5 stars Definitive.   October 20, 2009

Where have all the bad reviews come from? I recently got this for my 19th birthday and have just watched it on my PS3 connected to a Sony Bravia HD LCD TV. All I can say about the film, the picture quality and the sound is: "Wow." At no point did I think 'Hmm, there's a fault.' because there is nothing about this transfer that is wrong. br /So yeah the Blu-ray transfer is awesome, as you might have gathered, but I must go back to my original question: Where have all the bad reviews come from? Well I have read the reviews on different sites and most of them continuously have the word 'apparently' in them. Now that is the sign of a hypothetical review; someone has not seen the transfer but since other reviews have stated that the picture quality is bad they go and write a review and base that opinion on it. Others have stated that the picture is 'grainy'. Yes it is but not to nearly the extent that they portray it, it is only subtly grainy to give the film that historic edge which works very well and at no point did I notice any arrows or fireballs disappear then reappear. br /Some answers that I have conjured up to maybe justify why people have stated that the transfer is bad are the following; they are people who notice way too much and blow things way out of proportion and therefore do not enjoy the film, they are lying about the faults, they have bought a defective copy of the film transfer or their Blu-ray player has not been updated with the current firmware capabilities. br /This film is the definitive Blu-ray to have. Do not hesitate or question the quality and when the battle scenes, the aesthetic landscapes and the colosseum scenes are on your screen you will know what I mean. br /

5 out of 5 stars What's With All The Bad Reviews?! Thought It Was Great!   September 9, 2009

Why is there somebody saying get the DVD version? I thought the picture and sound is Blu standard to be honest. Thought the quality of the picture was great! The majority of reviews on here were posted before the film's release which does not give it a fair chance.. In my opinion people should get banned from writing reviews before the release date as frankly it gets on mine and everyone elses nerves.. br / br /Anyway I had no problem with the film and if there are any gladiator fans out there I recommend getting this! br / br / br / br /

5 out of 5 stars Excellent! Nothing Wrong with the Picture   September 7, 2009

I read these reviews before checking my copy, which arrived this morning, and started to panic. I immediately put disc 1 into my player to have a look. I watch all my Dvd's and Blu-rays projected onto a 7 foot screen, which shows up any imperfections a disc may have, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the picture quality. It's the best I've seen the film look in years. There's plenty of detail throughout the film, which makes some of the spectacular effects look a little dated now, but overall the film is crisp and clear. br / br /I haven't checked the special features yet. br / br /Nice Steelbook too. Mine also included 4 Artcards/postcards. br / br /

5 out of 5 stars Glad i did not listen to the negative feedback.   September 13, 2009

Firstly i was never going to freeze frame this movie to check if Arrows really did disappear and appear fractions of a second later. I can't imagine anyone noticing such an insignificant thing when there are soo many great things going on. br / br /The film looked stunning on my 52" Bravia, played through my PS3. The film is visually quite dark to begin with but i really noticed the upgrade from DVD when it came to the Colosseum sequences. I also thought that the computer generated scenes looked far more polished in this edition. br / br /People learnt some new words from the American forums (Digital Noise Reduction and Edge Enhancement) and they love to quote them and talk people down when they say they watched and enjoyed it. Like i said, i watched this film on my own setup and have been nothing but impressed...maybe i need better eyes or something.

Please do not listen to the one star reviews on this page as they are nonsense. For anyone who ever feels the need to prematurely slate something in an amazon review, please get your facts right first. Thank you to the person who despite all the bad reviews went ahead with this and gave us the truth as it is a gem with audio and visual remastered wonderfully.
