Duran Duran - Sing Blue Silver February 17, 2004 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I remember watching this on T.V years ago and had it taped, so it's nice to see it released on DVD at last. It's a good chance to see the guys back stage and what they got up to. A must for any big duranie fan.
Best Duran DVD By Far !!! March 17, 2004 Paul (Cheshire, UK) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
No promo's here - simply a great documentary following the band round the USA. Includes many great bits of footage. The highlight is the Coca-Cola press conference where John says that he prefers Pepsi and when asked how long the lads have been playing their instruments, John answers 'I've been playing with mine since the age of 9 and Roger needs two hands for his !!!'.pThe VHS got deleted pretty quick after its original release many years ago but is well worth the money. The band don't play up to the camera and the whole thing comes across as a real true to life account of the tour. Heartily Recommended.
Priceless Duran Duran Documentary Gets the DVD Treatment. May 25, 2004 Burjiz (Schaffhausen, Switzerland) 11 out of 19 found this review helpful
Whoever came up with the idea of releasing "Sing Blue Silver" on DVD must have been reading my mind. Back in the 1980s, MTV aired this special documentary on Duran Duran's 1984 North American tour in support of their "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" LP. Today, it's now restored on DVD with 25 additional minutes of footage that wasn't shown on MTV. It's a wonderful glimpse of the band behind the scenes, and it shows the tons of work that goes into each individual show, from stage setup, to makeup to soundcheck. "Sing Blue Silver" also follows the band as they make promotional stops in America including press conferences, radio interviews, and a brief appearance on the now defunct "Friday Night Videos" in which Simon LeBon rigorously defends Duran Duran as a credible group and not some faceless boyband. We also catch them meeting members of the L.A. Raiders, brainstorming with video director Russell Mulcahy, and we also discover that keyboardist Nick Rhodes was (and probably still is) a huge fan of arcade video games. But more important, "Sing Blue Silver" catches the band in concert, performing many of their hits including "Hungry Like the Wolf," "Is There Something I Should Know," and a rousing rendition of "Careless Memories." Aside from decent sound quality and picture, "Sing Blue Silver" offers no extra features, but we do get a booklet featuring photos of the band on tour, and we get postcard-size photos of each of the members: Simon, Nick, Andy, Roger, and John. Despite the lack of extras, "Sing Blue Silver" is a dream come true for Durannies and a pretty solid documentary of the band on tour during their peak in popularity.
Excellent Documentary April 14, 2004 Richard Henwood (London United Kingdom) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
"The Sing Blue Silver tour" that helped make the band a house hold name across the world in 1984, is captured brilliantly in this Documentary.Capturing the energy of their climb to the top of their profession.brAn interseting , funny and captivating look back in time at the peak, in the bands career.Filmed 20 years ago , it still remains today a film very worth watching.
Durantastic! March 7, 2005 4 out of 12 found this review helpful
I recorded this behind the scenes show and concert off the TV 20 years ago and just had to buy it when it was released on DVD. Was I disapointed? NO WAY! The sad person that I am remembered it virtually word for word. This is a must buy for any 80s fan.
