5 out of 5 stars Steven Seagal is The Keeper   November 8, 2009
Mr. L. Noble (UK)
I'm a fan of Steven Seagal films and have watched many of his over the last couple of years. I bought it from Amazon after seeing it on the shelf at Asda (cheaper on Amazon!) I enjoyed it throughout and it is one of his better films of late. Well recommended if you're a Seagal fan!

4 out of 5 stars Much better than Against the dark!   October 22, 2009

I bought this after seeing it advertised on here, got it home and watched with hope that it was better than the last film he made which was "Against the dark" which was a zombie/vampire kill fest, That he was only in for about half hour in total through the entire film. br / br /Anyway back to "The Keeper", the good news is that he does all the fights himself, and some are quite brutal, with the usual array of kicks, snaping arms and flying through random coffee tables are in full count. br / br /The next good piece of news is the terrible dubbing which has pluaged his films of late is not here, there is some at the beggining and that is only a couple of lines and it is harly noticable. br / br /a very good film with enough action to keep you amused for the duration. br / br /Lets hope that the next film he does will be even better.

4 out of 5 stars great for a segal movie   October 17, 2009

a very good outing for seagal, still not in the league of his big hits i.e under siege ect. br /but with a bigger budget and better director this could of been really good. br / br /its a movie very loosely based on man on fire. br /its all set in texas, none of the usual eastern european places you never even heard of. br /from what i can tell all voice acting is seagal, and all fight scenes are humself. br /plot wise its pretty weak but hey its a seagal movie. br / br /is it a great film no, but for seagal its an excellent movie. br / br /overall id have to reccomend this movie, his last one Ruslan was good this is better who knows this could be start of a trend.

4 out of 5 stars On the up...   October 29, 2009
Mr. A. Moulds (England)
I am a Seagal fan owning all of his films, so I am admitedly not independent! But I would say that this is another good film from Seagal, after a recent nosedive in quality. Kill Switch, Against The Dark and Driven to Kill were for me nestled in between average and disappointing. I think it is because you know what he is capable of, so when he doesn't deliver you can only think it is because he doesn't care enough br / br /The Keeper is one of three good films released post 2006, the others (for me) being Renegade Justice and Pistol Whipped. Seagal seems to take more interest in the acting of the role and also seems more dedicated to turning in his own fight scenes. Some of the stunt/body doubles in previous outing have been a disgrace to be frank, but it seems that this time he has returned to his own scenes. This adds validity and also makes you want to watch br / br /The plot is predictable in many ways, but I am tired of hearing this as a criticism....with Seagal films you know what you are going to get, and this is the appeal!! In fact, his better recent films are all the ones in which he returns to the style and plot of his greatest roles...good man gets wronged (in some way) and so goes out to even up the score. He is criticised when he strays from this premise, and then also when he delivers it...so really he can't win, but that is bcause it has become 'cool' to trash him. Like when his films are on TV and get reviewed in the papers, they start from negative and work back. So here he delivers what you want him to deliver. br / br /I would recommend this film, and I hope others do too. If you want to see the better Seagal films of later years, I would recommend Shadowman, Renegade Justice, Pistol Whipped and now this, The Keeper. Seagal is believable in the role and gives off that air of cool and dangerous, that lets face it we all want to see him get accross again

3 out of 5 stars Its no keeper - but not a loser, either.   November 15, 2009
M. S. Skidmore (Kinver, United Kingdom)
Our direct to video Lord, Steven Seagal returns once more to our cosy small screens with yet another slice of low budget action mayhem shot in some far eastern country where making films is cheap and script writing is an after thought. In his latest installment, The Lord plays ex-LA cop Roland Salinger (you know the kind, he's always referred to as 'the best in his class'), who after a near fatal shooting from his crooked partner switches careers and moves to Bucharest to work as a bodyguard to the daughter of his old friend Connor Wells. br / br /Connor's daughter Nikkita (a good Liezl Carstens - but that maybe my libido talking, I'm not sure) is the usual rich kid socialite kind who is dating up and coming boxer Mason Silver (played by Arron Shiver) and at first treats The Lord with the usual cinematic contempt that these movies always display and doesn't want her life handled by the pony tailed avenger, but after a few star struck looks between them, she soon begins to warm to The Lord's porky charms. Unknown to our pony tailed hero however, Connor is caught up in some bad business with a bunch of very bad men (yes, its that level of writing) and when Nikita's not so loveable boyfriend organises a kidnap attempt on Nikita's life - The Lord goes all Denzel Washington and unleashes his inner 'Man on Fire' on all and sundry culminating in a final kick off gun battle at Connor's home! br / br /To be fair to The Lord, this time out - efforts do seem to have been made. He looks better than he has been in recent movies and he seems to be making a point to be more active in the 'thespian' department. He actually seems to be taking part in the film this time around, and not just a badly dubbed, awfully body doubled shadow of his former self. The direction by Keoni Waxman is solid, if uninspired - but, its a major step up from what we have been seeing from his other recent collaborations. The script is pedestrian at best and is basically a semi-remake of 'Man on Fire' anyway, but from a reflective point of view - you can't really knock the movie as in terms of a direct to video vehicle for The Lord, it is watchable, it has decent production values and it rarely drags. The only criticism I would have for it is that it almost tries too hard to be a proper movie and with that caveat it loses any sense of fun that we have seen from other recent Lord epics such as 'Kill Switch' (you know the one with ''that blonde woman ending'') and his other, more stranger efforts. However, he does wear a stetson for a period of time, which made me smirk for a few minutes so I guess all was not lost on the comedy front... br / br /All in all, a decent if uninspired movie that confirms when he does make an effort, The Lord can deliver a minor watchable entry in his twilight years. Its not 'Under Siege' and to be fair, his newer movies will never be, but in terms of his other recent output, it is certainly a step in the right direction. Optimum's disc is a movie only affair with a decent transfer - minor grain, but I am sure that is more to do with the look of the film rather than the presentation. Rental recommended.
