Customer Reviews:
2 out of 5 stars Whoever cast Brittany Murphy in this role?   November 7, 2009
Mr. Simon A. Macklin (Northampton, England)

I could of course find out, by reading the credits. But I prefer to think it was a monkey, with a pin and a list of names. The great Mark Kermode often sites the example of Meg Ryan cast as an airline pilot as one of those Hollywood moments that just makes you say "no! - I do not believe this!". Well, I for one will not make the leap of faith required to believe that Brittany Murphy is a screenwriter. No, no, no. br / br /The plot is stinky anyway - why on earth someone would hole-up alone in a scary old mansion to try and recover from personal trauma I can`t imagine - but really it isn`t helped by the silly casting. Would the film have been good with the right shape pegs in the right shape holes? Nah...it`s just daft. The usual scary noises and unexplained happenings occur in the house, then Brittany finds some old home videos, which tell the tale of man and woman (the previous inhabitants) making a pig`s ear of their relationship. A rather trivial complaint comes to mind - if all our heroine can see is on a videotape, how does she even know what the male protagonist looks like (he films everything that happens between himself and his wife)? I didn`t really care what the outcome of the plot was at any point...it`s not a good sign when you start looking at the DVD timer to see when it will tick over to one hour, one hour five minutes, etc. But this at least brought some entertainment into my evening. br / br /It`s wrapped up quickly with a very dull twist at the end including Brittany`s fat friend, that really makes you think...it really makes you think "why did I bother"? br / br /
