5 out of 5 stars The Reason Slash left GNR   December 10, 2001

What is there to say about this album except one thing: IT RULES!!! The record adds more cement to Slash's reutation as one of the very best Axemen of all time and showcases the talent of the other snakes in the pit (the band, duh) and features a song co-written by Duff McKaghan, so it has some GNR flava, although this is really an album of Slash's own style. Guitarist's and music-lovers will be pleased to her of a rockin' guitar/drums instrumenal, which really shows off Slash's unique style. If you loved the Guns N Roses albums this is a must. Buy it! Buy it now!

5 out of 5 stars G N' R With Out Axle Rose What More Could You Want!   January 31, 2004

Guns and Roses with the Crap bit cut out! Wonderful! Slash has always been my favourite guitarist and also perhaps even my idol. I have only ever heard Slash on G N' R albums such as "Appetite For Destruction" where his work is obscured by the awful voice of Axle Rose, thus when I bought this album I was expecting a lot...p...The album completely lived up to expectations and I now have a new favourite slash track, "Be The Ball" that I feel is better than the Classic #8220;Sweet Child O#8217; Mine#8221;. Every track was great but with some highlights would be "I Hate Everybody (But You)" and "Doin' Fine".pMany might accuse slash of being self indulgent as a guitarist and also a crap singer and I can see why, But really Slash is at the top of the greatest guitarists ever list with only Hendrix above him so why not show off his skill? As to his singing...p...Well its not great, but any one is better than Axle Rose surely.pWell done Snake Pit and I am looking forward to buying "Ain't Life Grand".

5 out of 5 stars Classic example of Slash's bluesy, hard rock guitar playing.   April 3, 2000

Slash's first solo album with his solo band after leaving his former band Guns N' Roses, who were amazing. All the songs on this album are great and the vocals are a lot better than I thought. The guitar playing by Slash is also amazing, and has a hard rock and blues style playing. I definetly recommend that you get this album, you wont be disapointed.

5 out of 5 stars Slash can do it on his own, you know...   February 7, 2008
Kieran Cooper (Devon, England)
I bought this album after having borrowed "Ain't Life Grand" from a friend. If anything, I got the better end of the deal - this is a classier sounding, more complete album. The band Slash worked with on this album was absolutely top-notch. Eric Dover's vocals are amazing, Matt Sorum is (of course) on form, Alice In Chains' Mike Inez provided the bass and the inclusion of the legendary Gilby Clarke as "rhythm" guitarist just shows how good this album is. Musically the album is pretty much the expected territory - blues based, good-time rock n roll with an edge. This album could possibly provide the best ever soundtrack to a bar room brawl! Aside from (obviously) Slash's guitar playing, the real gem on this album is Eric Dover - he has such a classic rock orientated voice that sits really well with the material. Where (here comes the inevitable Guns 'N' Roses comparison) Axl Rose's vocals could become wearing after a while, I could listen to Dover's voice all day. Top album, and definitely one of my favourites.
