Yeah, I'll admit that if it hadn't been for Stay, I probably wouldn't have heard of Lisa Loeb. But after the intial excitement of that song, and her potentilly being scandeleously reduced to 'One hit wonder' status, I can glady admit that with hearing this and her other albums, Lisa Loeb is an amazing modern songwriter. Sure, Stay is a great example of the kind of intricate, wonderful guitar meolides she can come up with as well as her strong, highly listenable voice, but luckily it's shoved to the back of this album so you have to listen to the other great songs here first before you can get to it!pFirst track, It's Over, is a folky little number that kicks things off beautifully. Next track, Snow Day, is a little less in-your-face compared to It's Over, and is more familiar Stay territory. Taffy is the first meanderings into the notion that Loeb can actually rock out, with it's great drum beat and super-loud bass riffs, this is a superb dance-along track, even if the subject matter seems to be about a friend of hers getting beaten up at home - but then again, Lisa has always chosen heavy subject matters and turned them into heartfelt songs in an intelligent way. Hurricaine is an excellent, emotive pop number, which could easily rank up there with anything like Cornflake Girl (Tori Amos) or She Cries Your Name (Beth Orton). Sandalwood is perhaps the most beautiful song here, with the guitars even more intricate and lilting that ever, and Lisa's vocals reaching new levels of emotion and honesty. Waiting For Wednesday, like Taffy, is another upbeat rock track and could easily be the theme to some modern, schmaltzy American comedy/drama (without being so schmaltzy). Bascially, by the time you get to Stay, you've already had such a good time with this album that Stay is just the cherry on the cake.pLisa's second solo album, Firecracker, is also a.. cracker.

4 me, Lisa Loeb iz up there with Paula Cole and Alanis in the most amazing woman in the world category! No one cud have predicted that an amazing song like Stay cud have bin followed up by such an outstanding album! Now all Eye have 2 do iz find a copy of Firecracker and Eye'll be away! Ha ha!

If you've bought, or heard, any other Lisa Loeb album before listening to this then you might feel that this album is quite different, perhaps too sparse in terms of musical arrangements. The general feeling, too, is of one main mood. However, if you like Lisa Loeb then I recommend you buy this album and listen to it over and over. The wonderful lyrics _are_ there, and there are glorious little gems of melody. There is intelligence and beauty in this album - rare enough these days - and you can see where the whole Lisa Loeb story began.

Well, I bought this album after purchasing and loving 'Cake and Pie', and to be honest, it left me a tad empty. Song after song that sounded the same left me feeling a little... well... blah. Firecracker, which I haven't heard, was on the horizon, but after hearing this album, I don't think I'll bother. Lisa Loeb has let me down a little...
