Amazon.co.uk Review "Spice up your life", the Spice Girls advise on the first single from iSpiceworld/i, their second album, which was made quickly to capitalise on the movie of the same name. If that sounds more like an advertising slogan than a call for variety, solidarity, and fun, it's not the only time the disc echoes the language of a carefully planned campaign: The chorus of "Move Over" is built around the phrase "Generation Next", the rallying cry of the their Pepsi advert. And if, in turn, you come to the conclusion that this record isn't nearly as much fun as its predecessor, you're right. Any question about the creative input of Scary, Posh, Baby, Ginger, and Sporty into their own music is moot; like "Candle in the Wind 1997", iSpiceworld/i was made to be bought, not listened to. Sure, they trade vocals this time, leaning less on the Bananarama-style gang approach of their debut, and yeah, the Motown-lite confection "Stop" doesn't exactly hurt the ear, but this disc is ultimately a bigger insult than anything a bunch of diehard anarchists such as Chumbawamba could imagine--without the kick of "Tubthumping". It also ends on a note so jarring as to settle the group firmly in the avant-garde with the fake-lounge "Lady Is a Vamp", which unfortunately praises Jackie O and Marilyn Monroe in the same verse, then ups the ante with a shout-out to Sandy Denny(!) as a Spicy role model. All together now: Uh huh. i--Rickey Wright/i

PURE POP - AMAZING December 3, 2006 Matthew B (England) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a fantastic pop album which shows growt in the Spice Girls!
br /It has gone on to become one of my fave albums of all time, asd it masters many different types of pop music such as Motown, Jazz, Techno...!
br /
br /The weakest track is Saturday Night Divas which is still a very good average track, the best would either have to be Stop which masters Motown and grows on you more andf more everytime you hear it, or Viva Forever which in my opinion is one of the best songs of all time! Even my dad who hate the Spice Girls loves this track!

br /Spice up your Life - 4/5

This album is the best...I have spent 5 weeks listening to nothing else. There is such a range on hear, I can bearly describe the amazingness:p1. Spice Up Your Life- Hardcore pop (10/10)br2. Stop- Poppy Pop (9/10)br3. Too Much- Classy Pop (10/10)br4. Saturday Night Divas- Brillient Pop (10/10)br5. Never Give Up on the Good Times- Happy Pop (10/10)br6. Move Over- Rock Pop (9/10)br7. Do It- Sexi Pop (9/10)br8. Denying- Sassy Pop (10/10)br9. Viva Forever- Tearful Pop (10/10)br10. Lady Is a Vamp- Big Band Pop (10/10)pAs you can tell, this album is 10 out of 10 pop and is a must have for everyone. This is too good to be the Spicegirls we saw in the movie and on Spice, they have matured yet stayed cool with it.brWorth more than 5/5, its 100% good and more!
Entertained the easy way! August 7, 2000 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Unlike the annonymous American reviewer, I never expected great acting skills, when I bought this video, and I believe it was never intended to launch the Spice Girls into professional acting careers, was it? The movie is full of hillarious references within and without the music business (James Bond, Bob Geldof, Elton John, etc.) and he who doesn't mind being ENTERTAINED, no doubt will be. The music's good, the girls look good, so what's wrong with that? Irmela, Hamburg
BRILLIANT!! November 21, 2000 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
When this was released, I was the ONLY person I knew to like the film! I bought it straight away, and I watched it continuously!! My favourite part is the bit where mel b is looking for her boots, and geri's wearing them...oh! i dont know how they got there! Okay, okay, maybe the Spice Girls aren't the most talented of all actresses, but in my opinion, that adds to the comedy!! It's not supposed to be a serious film, so dont buy it if that's what you want! It's hilarious from start to finish, and sees the girls making fun of themselves continuously... And, despite what some people have said in the past, there is a storyline! It's basically about their adventures on the way to their BIG concert..I won't ruin it, buy it for yourself!! Well, I really enjoyed this film. I think it's a must for spice girls fans, particularly the younger ones. I think it's just brilliant!!! And I'm 18!!
The Spice Girls most critical acheivement in music! March 18, 2002 spice_invader@aol.com (Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
Despite the four stars reviews that have been posted, I feel this album deserves five stars.pThe album 'Spice World' shows us the image of five girls, who were transitioning into women. The sound of this album, is slightly more rooted into pop, this also showcases several key elements in future Spice Girls' acheivements:p1.Melanie Chishom a.k.a is introduced as the most powerful vocalist in the group.br2.The Girls' ability to write music.pThe Girls' show much diversity, while focusing on one specific genre, and blend vocally better than ever before. pA track by track review is in order:p1.Spice Up Your Life-First of all, this is not a merchandising cat call, but rather a melodic latin dance tune for the world. The lyrics take the listener around the world in almost two minutes. The chorus and verses are very well matched with the music. It also stands as an eternal testament to the Girls' individuality in music and fun.p2.Stop-A brilliant track on all its own. A mixture of Motown gives this track a great mature sound, that will appeal to adults and teens alike.p3.Too Much-By far one of their finest ballads to date, the Girls' slip into a 50's style ballad sound to pull this track off. This is where Melanie C is introduced as the most powerful singer of the group.p4.Saturday Night Divas-A jazz/80's dance track. Great lyrics and groove sensibility.p5.Never Give Up On The Good Times-The best unreleased track on this album. Dipping into a disco sound, the Girls' tell many stories of how situations go bad, but to never give up. This song was intended to be a double to 'Viva Forever'...but due to Geri's departure and her frequent vocals was never released.p6.Move Over.-The weakest, yet maybe the most energized track on the album. The only filler, doesn't really stand out...and pales to comparison to other tracks.p7.Do It-Another song giving great advise. Showcasing Mel.B's and Mel.C's vocals as a soulful duet.p8.Denying-The only RB track on this album, was pretty decent. Very well brought across, esepcially in the chorus...where the sass and attitude play out in the silkly voices.p9.Viva Forever-Probably the best single from this album. The lyrics tell a story of two lovers, who become seperated by fate. A very beautiful combo o latin and classical elements for the music.p10.The Lady Is A Vamp-One of the most amusing tracks. This brings the history of some of most influential females in histroy, and this track is also known as the 'Sound Off' song.pAll in all, 'Spice World' is a perfect pop confection for all ages and people.
