'Right Between the Eyes!' June 26, 2006 Mr. A. E. Hall (Liverpool, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
KISS in 1982 were seemingly in decline. Their last three studio albums had steadily declining sales, and they seemed to have lost all direction. To come back with an album like this is a testament to the shrewd nous of Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons and their brillaince at producing great rock music.
br /
br / The album starts as it means to continue with thundering drums leading into the title track. New drummer Eric Carr finally gets to show off his skills and was never better. Gene also excels throughout the album, on I Love it Loud and the menacing War Machine in particular. Paul contributes I Still Love You and the frentic Danger as well as the awesome title track. There are no weak songs on the album, only fantastic songs and good songs. Here is KISS as they were meant to sound, heavy and seriously hard rockers.
br /
br / There are two reasons for the sudden return to sanity (aside from Gene and Paul waking up at long last); the first is producer Michael James Jackson, who unlike Vini Poncia and Bob Ezrin harnessed everything good about KISS to produce the heavy metal masterpiece. The other is Vinnie Cusano, a session musician who co-writes three of the songs herein and plays on some of them in guitarist Ace Frehley's abcense. Both help KISS pick themselves out of the rut they were in to produce certainly one of their best records and a genuine rock classic. A worthy addition to anyone's record collection.
very heavy March 15, 2005 S. S. Matharu (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This album is the best kiss album without ace and peter. The guitars and drums are is great form and the vocals are heavy and aggressive.pThe stand out tracks are:brcreatures of the night - very heavy with thunderous drums and guitar riffs. hard vocals and a menacing chorus.pI love it loud - one of genes better songs, again hard drums and strong vocals.pI still love you - a great inspirational ballad by paul stanley. Great if you like pauls ballads.poverall a very solid album. I think that the band sound tighter then when ace and peter were in the lineup.pbuy it today!!!!!
At Worst It Is KISS' Second Greatest Studio Album March 18, 2000 roderick.hall@telia.com (Stockholm, Sweden) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
One of the earliest and certainly the best heavy metal album recorded, the album that came at one of the most unstable times for the band produced this monumental achievment. The heavy drums and guitar work produced heart pounding rockers like the title track and Danger while I Love It Loud and War Machine are heavy-bass, chest vibrating rock n' roll masterpieces with the heavy and powerful I Still Love You becoming the albums best love songs. It was one of the first KISS albums I bought and remains my favourite until this very day.
Hard rock at it's best April 13, 2000 M. Milner (Newcastle UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Other than Kiss alive and alive II, this album is a must have. An absoulte monster, if this had been produced instead of unmasked, the Elder etc - they would never have gone away. The drums and bass are massive. Have a few pints, let your hair down and put it on LOUD. The bass and drums will slice you in two!
End of an era January 11, 2001 Mr. Dean R. Hughes 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This was the last Kiss album, until Psycho Circus nearly 20 years later, that would feature Kiss in their make up. Original drummer Peter Criss has already gone, replaced by the more powerfull Eric Carr, and although Ace Frehelys face is on the cover, all the guitar work was played by Vinnie Vincent (who would appear on their next album - Lick It Up). Quite simply, this album rocks. Everything from the frenetic guitar work on the title tune, to the pounding drums on 'I Love It Loud' to the sheer intensity of 'I Still Love You' combines to make this one of the all time great Kiss albums. Do yourself a favour; buy it.
