5 out of 5 stars You can't beat those Boys with the Beards!!   July 13, 2005

I remember growing up with ZZ Top when I was a kid. I was always envious as a teen that my dad had every single album on Cassette tape in his collection.brI can't say enough how great this band is. The awesome tunes one after another never get dull and I have the lost the amount of times I have listened to this album over and over again and it gets better every time.brYep, this and Eliminator may sound quite similar but is that a bad thing? I think not. I cannot explain what it is about the tunes that make them so good, the only way to find out is buy it, listen and enjoy yourself. If you like some good old american rock, this is definately for you, and if the track "Rough Boy" doesn't chill you out, nothing will!

Yeeeeeeeeeesssssss!!!!!!!!!brAhem, sorry about that. Just had to get that off my chest. :o) That was my initial reaction when I heard this album. Wonderful!!! Sure there is absulutely nothing new on this. Except for the fact it is one track shorter, it's an exact copy of Eliminator. In fact it both albums would have made a killer double. From 'Sleeping Bag' to 'Delerious' you know what to expect and boy you're NOT disappointed. Favourites? Them all really, but especially "Stages", "Can't Stop Rockin'", "Planet of Women" "Dippin' low . . ." Even 'Rough Boy" is up there with the best in ZZ Ballads [rememeber that video? - spaced out, man!(!)]. Just put it on, switch your mind off and boogie out for 40 mins or so. Enjoy the sensation. Brilliant party and driving material - gets you EVERY time!

I must admit I thought I would have to defend this album, at the time it was not treated maybe as kindly as it deserved. ZZ Top hit the nail on the head so well with the early 1980's album Eliminator it was always going to be seriously hard to follow. br / br /I'm really pleased to see the other reviewers seeing this album for its worth. br / br /The fact the Eliminator car has evolved on the cover is no accident. This album evolved in 1980's style to a more synth space age feel. This album has a few weaker tracks but in all it's a great time peace in 1980's metal. The guitars are more fuzzy than Eliminator and the electro drums add to the feel of the time. br / br /Sleeping Bag. This is a well chosen album opener; I love the chops the rhythmic heavy sound and the fact ZZ Top can sing about any subject. br / br /Woke up with wood, opens up with a screaming riff that is well placed it kind of saves the track. br / br /Rough Boy, yes it's a bit soppy but it adds to the ZZ Top palette, the video is well worth watching. br / br /Velcro Fly, superb. Classic 1980's rock electro drums comedy. ZZ Top showing the roots for later songs like Burger Man on the 1990's albums. br / br /Dipping Low, this has a smooth sound that matches their voices very well, this track contains the kind of guitar chops expected from ZZ Top. br / br /Delirious, what happened here? This is ZZ Top meets Pantera! No complaints about this track but it fits like a sausage in a veggie buffet. Great track ZZ Top go (light and comedy) thrash! br / br /Well worth owning! br /(not given 5 stars as Eliminator is a 5 star album, this is not quite 5 stars, more 4.5) br /
