Amazon.co.uk Review
Punk had flirted with mainstream attention before--the Clash and Sex Pistols had hits--but didn't fully advance from the underground until this pure-punk 1994 album. In singing catchy, tight rock roll tunes--including "Longview", "Welcome to Paradise" and "When I Come Around"--Green Day sneered its way into the hearts of millions. The Berkeley, California, trio also ignited a debate: Is it selling out for punks to sign with a major record label and become multi-platinum stars? Fortunately, this band didn't seem to care as much as Kurt Cobain did. I--Steve Knopper/I

5 out of 5 stars This can appeal to anyone, it's not to be missed.   March 3, 2001

This cd represents everything people associate with Green Day. The witticism of the lyrics and power of the guitar lines makes for really compulsive listening. The smart rhyming lyrics of Basket Case as well as Tre Cools masterful drum fill intro followed by a sound that you just have to mosh to make it the most popular (and almost certainly the best) song on the album. Whilst When I come Around with its slow, melodic guitar line and bass line make it one of the most catchy tracks Green Day have written. The pure genius of Welcome to Paradise's bassy feel combined with incredible drumming and witty lyrics have to be heard to be believed. These are the best three tracks on the album. However, whilst Dookie carries Green Day's greatest ever tracks it does not come up to the consistency and light-hearted feel of Nimrod. It is more separated and detached. I have still given it five stars however, and I would say if you have never heard Green Day before, buy this album before any other - you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Probably Green day's best album!   January 6, 2004

Dooikie is the kind of album that you can listen to again and again without getting bored, simply because each and every song in it is just perfect!brIt is the third album of the band, and was published back in 1994, after "1,039 smoothed out slappy hours" (1990) and "Kerplunk" (1991).brIt contains 14 songs, which are the following: 1) Burnout, 2) Having a blast 3) Chump, 4) Longview, 5) Welcome to Paradise, 6) Pulling teeth, 7)Basket case (the song that made them famous), 8) She, 9) Sassafras roots, 10) When I come around, 11) Emenius sleepus, 13) In the end, and 14) F.O.D. The song that stands out is (without second thought) Basket case, a song that made the band from California famous all over the world, and helped them to evaluate and produce very nice and cool recordings! brInside, you will find a booklet, with the lyrics of all 14 songs, plus some very interesting illustrations the band members (Billie Joe, Tre and Mike) have made, and eight photos from the recording proccess.brIf you haven't got this cd, you must buy it now! It is a must for your collection, especially if you are a Green day fan, or you like punk rock music in general.brDeserves five stars, no hesitation!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant - Green Day at their best   June 12, 2000

After Kerplunk i didn't think it could get any better - it did. This album contains some of the best songs i have ever heard. Welcome to Paradise and Basket case are two of the best, with Burnout and Having a Blast not far behind. i have found with so many albums there are always songs which you can tell were made to fill space - in this there are none. All songs are well written and in not one place do you feel bored. Brilliant - if you don't have it BUY IT!

5 out of 5 stars The Stand-Out Green Day Record!   May 13, 2004

When i first heard Green Day, it was the year when they released the great "Warning" album, and it displayed the talent Billie Joe has for writing 3 minute punk tunes.pI only heard about Dookie through word of mouth, and couple of recommendations by some websites and a few friends. I bought the moment i heard a couple of songs from that album.pWhen i got to listen to record i fell instantly in love with it, giving the middle finger to the critics and not having a care in the world describes the mood of Dookie. Only Green Day could produce a song about a paranoid stoner over a 5 chord guitar riff (Basket Case) or an ode to the lonely boy (Longview).pThe album scores high on catchy hooks and originality, songs like Welcome to Paradise and When I Come Around showcase Billie's talent as a singer, while Burnout and every other track on the album have lyrics that are really catching.pThe best Green Day album next Warning! pBite your lip and close your eyes, and let this record take you away to paradise.

...I find it a little hard to believe that there are people reading this, who do not yet own this album.pTHIS ALBUM IS AN ESSENTIAL PURCHASE.pOkay, so Basket Case has been officially pronounced as dead from too much airplay but, that minor detail aside, every song here is 100% gold, and I mean that. Every song here, is exceptional.pYour only task now is to stray up to the #x27;Add To Shopping Basket#x27; button and click once.
