Amazon.co.uk Review The adage goes that a band has its entire career to create its first album, and the Wilson sisters, Ann and Nancy, never seemed able to top iDreamboat Annie/i, certainly one of rock's all-time strongest debuts. In fact, by the time they recorded this eponymous effort after switching labels, the industry had pretty much written them off as has-beens. Strangely, the 1985 release became one of the biggest hits of their career, scoring five hit songs. Of course, this was also where the band succumbed to outside tunesmiths and synthesizer-heavy MOR power ballads. Producer Ron Nevision even has Ann at times trying to emulate Madonna. Not a new direction but, frankly, a new band. --iBill Holdship/i

| Customer Reviews: Now Your In The 80's! December 23, 2003 James Cameron (a world of my own) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Okay, without doubt Heart will forever be remebered as the band responsable for hits such as Dreamboat Anne, but it was here in 1985 with this total change for the band that I think they became the group we all know and love......pOne of the most Iconic sounds from the 80's, heavy, powerfull rock ballads with the unreal vocals of Anne Wilson.pWho could ask for a better slice of 80's rock!!!!!!!!
The Body Soul of the greatest american rock group November 30, 2000 gpenton@aol.com (Derbyshire,UK) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
When this album was released Heart were just a struggling band. They had their heyday in the mid 70's with their 6+ million selling Dreamboat Annie debut and come the 80's were finding it hard to cope.So what's a band to do? Simply start afresh! With a new record deal,a top rock producer and most importantly, help in the songwriting situation,Heart came back like a phoenix from the flames with THE comeback album of the 80's. With 4 US top 10 singles and a multi platinuim album you could be excused for thinking that Heart, the self-titled new album, was just a radio friendly product. Not so! With a hard hitting opener like 'If Looks Could Kill' you indeed felt that Anne Wilson, the premier rock vocalist, would do that. With 'What About Love?' you get the best AOR ballad of the 80's.With 'The Wolf' you find this female fronted band rocking out just like in the 70's when they were touted as america's answer to Led Zeppelin.Yes.Believe it...breathe it in and let 'Heart' was over you. You'de be mad not to!!!!
Fabulous and Unforgettable. September 8, 2007 jean rigo (Eastern England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
br /I 've just discovered "Heart" - the name of the album and the band, the album was recorded in April 1985. It is one of the great Rock albums, a superb recording and a great achievement by all the band members and the contributing musicians. It features the incomparable voice of Nancy Wilson on 'These Dreams', I have rarely heard a singer who can communicate such beauty and emotion, it is a fabulous and unforgettable album.
Pop masquerading as rock October 27, 2007 D. J. H. Thorn (Hull, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was hooked on this album when I first heard it twenty years ago. These days, it doesn't strike the same chord. As a rock album, it's pretty tame, but it's littered with great melodies and the highlight is the soaring vocal delivery. Significantly, when the band go for a more abrasive approach, such as 'The Wolf,' the result is bland. 'If Looks Could Kill' is an arresting song that could have rocked a lot harder. With a rhythm section that features founder members of Montrose and Jo Jo Gunne, one wonders what might have been achieved. Instead, that 1980s scourge of rock music, the synth, tends to dominate.
br / All of the first four tracks, culminating in the hit, 'These Dreams,' are irresistible pop items. Thereafter, the quality is uneven. Many of the songs are from outside songwriting teams, which nearly always leads to cliched lyrical blandness. Still, it's the same route other bands on the skids, such as Aerosmith, have taken. The same applies to their next effort, 'Bad Animals,' but that album rocks better. Nearer a mark of three than five for me, but if you want good pop tunes, this is a worthwhile buy.
