| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review For old-school hip-hop fans, raised on Run-DMC and Public Enemy, this is the equivalent of Chinese water-torture: a 17-track collection of tepid beats, lame, solipsistic rhymes and numbingly obvious 80s-pop references--mostly performed by the music's reigning majordomo: a man who, to all appearances, can neither rap, sing nor dance. What's indisputable, however, is that Sean "Puffy" Combs' success demonstrates a profound rupture in the hip-hop firmament. As the style intruded upon the commercial mainstream, its makers sensed the lucrative opportunities on offer, and became more blatantly aspirational; consequently, the lyrics changed--their subject-matter shifting from revolution to acquisition, from AKs to Versace--while the music became less dense and more buyer-friendly. And despite (or, more precisely, because of) his artistic failings, Combs was the perfect exemplar of where the genre was at, post-Tupac, post-Biggie. He'd like to claim credit for remaking hip-hop in his own image, but in fact, he's merely a symptom of its decline. I--Andrew McGuire/i

yes it can be argued that puffy god bless him cant rap and his fist albulm shows this shockingly.... but who cares it sounds good! surrounded by the bad boy all stars biggie, mase, lil kim, black rob, the lox, and others.... this aint hard core stuff but the wicked sampling and all star cast makes it worth buying and it sounds cool in a jeep!
the best out of all 3 albums August 14, 2001 elewisohn@aol.com (London) 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
The lyrics are amazing, the songs are amazing and the rap family is amazing feturing (lil'kim, the notorious b.i.g, mase, jay-z, and the lox). Puff daddy is the king of rap. This is his best and first album and is worth getting without question. After playing this album once you will not be able to put it down.

Puffy is a living legend. My title says it all CLASSIC. Also with Biggie, Jay-z, Twista, Mase and Ginuwine featuring on tracks you can't go wrong.
what an amazing album!! March 3, 2005 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is without doubt one of the best hip hop albums ever. the beats are amazin, the flow is amazin, the lyrics are great too. some truly great songs. any hip hop fan should own this classic album
An aquired taste at best, puffy is saved by BIGGIE's genious November 25, 1999 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
'Is this the end' feat. Twista and 'Victory' feat. BIGGIE almost save this over-hyped collection of dull, boring semi-hip hop. Once again Mace is here to remove any thoughts of style or pace. Unworthy of the late, great BIGGIE's phenominal talents and Twista's potential.
