| Customer Reviews: Simply wonderful and just so catchy!! July 6, 2001 martin@biggleswade49.freeserve.co.uk (Biggleswade, East Anglia, England) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Where do I start? Mindy has an amazing voice that is somewhat unique (I have a friend who says it's a cross between Celine Dion and Lolly with a little Dolly Parton added in for extra fun!). Having heard only A Girl's Gotta Do (What A Girl's Gotta Do), I bought this album on impulse while out in London and I can honestly say it has become an instant favourite. The album features upbeat tracks (A Girl's Gotta Do..., Guys Do It All The Time and It Ain't A Party) but contains mainly the slower songs that I would call love songs if they weren't about heartbreak. There are too many great songs on this album for me to have a personal favourite, but Maybe He'll Notice Her Now (a song about a woman leaving her man because she feels ignored) and Tell Me Something I Don't Know (about a relationship ending and knowing it will happen but not knowing why he doesn't love her anymore) are probably the two I would choose above the others. For sheer catchyness, All That I Am is another track that stands out (a woman with a mind, a body with a soul, a heart full of love that won't let go), but then on what is a relatively short album (10 tracks lasting a total of just over 35 minutes) every track stands out in it's own way. Have A Nice Day is one of the most quiet songs and one that I underrated the first time I listened to it (about a waitress wanting to declare her love for a customer but only managing to say Have a nice day). Breakin' It is perhaps the nearest to a 'proper' love song on this album (but if my heart was intact, you know I'd let you have the first crack, at breakin' it) and Ten Thousand Angels is almost an anti-love song. Politically incorrect but upbeat and catchy, It Ain't A Party (Till the girls get there) is always a song that lifts my spirits.pI have lost count of the nights I put this CD on (tracks 2, 5 and 7 exempted) and drifted off to sleep to the remaining songs.pThis album is possibly a good starting point for anyone getting into country music as there are very few of the loud guitar pieces so often associated with all types of country. As a final thought, this is her first album. Logic says her second should be better and I can't wait to get it!!
Outstanding debut is still her best album August 3, 2003 Peter Durward Harris (Leicester England) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Mindy is a brilliant singer and gets the chance to show it on this excellent collection of songs. The title track is a song about vulnerability while Guys do it all the time is an amusing look at different attitudes regarding men and women. Other favorites of mine include Maybe he'll notice her now and A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, although every song here is a gem.pThe first nine tracks are (as far as I know) all originals, but the album closes with an oldie, Breaking it, which first appeared on a Claire Lynch album in the early eighties. Claire wasn't very enthusiastic about that album, but some great singers have covered songs from it. pMindy has recorded some great music on her (so far) three subsequent albums, but none of those albums come close to matching the overall brilliance of this debut album. This is what I call quality contemporary country.
Great Country album from A Great singer March 4, 2009 Mr. W. Tatum (Essex Uk) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mindys first album is great. The highlites are 10,000 angles and Breakin' It (first recorded by Loretta lynn and Claire Lynch but this is by far the best version in fact it is my favorite song of all time)
br / Mindy has had her problems of late but she has a fantastic voice. her next two albums are also great. I can't wait for her new material. Take care Mindy we love you.
