Cher's Greatest Hits 1965-1992 June 30, 2005 Diva (U.K) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
-Cher's Greatest Hits 1965-1992 (1992)-pThis is an excellent hits collection of Cher's hits from 1965 to 1992. Most of the hits are included, though a few are missed. Love Hurts is missing, which could have easily been given a place on this compilation, as well as more under-rated hits like You Wouldn't Know Love and Could've Been You. Despite this, the collection is still worth 5-stars. Below is a review of all the tracks from this album, their release dates and the chart information:-p'Oh No Not My Baby' was a new song at the time of this albums release. It was released on 14th November 1992 and reached No.33 in the UK. It spent 4 weeks on the Top 75.p'Whenever You're Near' was a new song at the time of this albums release. It was released on 6th March 1993 and reached No.72 (!) in the UK. It spent 1 week on the Top 75.p'Many Rivers To Cross' was a new song at the time of this albums release. It was released on the 16th January 1993 and reached No.37 in the UK. It spent 3 weeks on the Top 75. The version on here appears a live version from The Mirage.p'Love And Understanding' was released on 13th July 1991 and reached No.10 in the UK. It spent 8 weeks on the Top 75.p'Save Up All Your Tears' was released on 12th October 1991 and reached No.37 in the UK. It spent 5 weeks on the Top 75.p'The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss) was released on 13th April 1991 and reached No.1 in the UK. It spent 15 weeks on the Top 75 and appeared in the film 'Mermaids'.p'If I Could Turn Back Time' was released on 2nd September 1989 and reached No.6 in the UK. It spent 14 weeks on the Top 75.p'Just Like Jesse James' was released on 13th January 1990 and reached No.11 in the UK. It spent 11 weeks on the Top 75.p'Heart Of Stone' was released on 7th April 1990 and reached No.43 in the UK. It spent 5 weeks on the Top 75.p'I Found Someone' was released on 19th December 1987 and reached No.5 in the UK. It spent 10 weeks on the Top 75. p'We All Sleep Alone' was released on 2nd April 1988 and reached No.47 in the UK. It spent 5 weeks on the Top 75 and I feel it deserved alot more, as it is my favourite Cher song!p'Bang-Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)' was re-recorded in 1987 into a metal/rock version. The original version was horrible, this version is alot better. The original version was released on 31st March 1966 and reached No.3 in the UK. It spent 12 weeks on the Top 75.p'Dead Ringer For Love' was Cher's duet with Meat Loaf. It was released on 28th November 1981 and reached No.5 in the UK. It spent 17 weeks on the Top 75. p'Dark Lady' was released on 16th February 1974 and reached No.36 in the UK. It spent 4 weeks on the Top 75.p'Gypsys, Tramps And Thieves' was released on 6th November 1971 and reached No.4 in the UK. It spent 13 weeks on the Top 75. p'I Got You Babe' was a Sonny Cher song. It was released on 12th August 1965 and reached No.1 in the UK. It spent 12 weeks on the Top 75.p'Cher's Greatest Hits 1965-1992' is released on 21st November 1992 and goes straight to No.1 in the UK!! It spends 33 weeks on the UK Albums Chart.pOverall, this album is excellent. It includes so many excellent hits, and you can sing along to all of them! Cher is the best!
MISTRESS OF MANY STYLES May 21, 2003 Pieter (Johannesburg) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
Cher is a true survivor, a pop singer in the broadest sense of the term who has embraced many styles to consistently remain relevant through more than four decades. This album compiles her greatest hits of the 60s, 70s and 80s up to 1991's Shoop Shoop Song. It includes her hit duet with Sonny, I Got You Babe, a 60s pop classic that has been much covered by other artists, plus her power rock duet with Meat Loaf from his Dead Ringer album. There's also Dark Lady from 1974, the brilliant Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves from 1971 and a rousing live version of Many Rivers To Cross. Cher's success is due to her wise selection of material and her strong distinctive voice. If you love tuneful pop, you cannot go wrong with this enjoyable hits collection.
Cher's Greatest Hits 1965-1992 --- God It's Good! July 27, 2007 Jake M (England) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
One of my all time favorite arists is Cher --- a true star with such a powerful, great voice --- a diva!
br / This superb compilation that was released in 1992 and went straight into the UK album chart at no.1 is one of the true greatest hits collections and this one showing Cher's best work from the early 80s/early 90s mainly.
br / Are there some many fab tracks included such as "I Found Someone", "Heart Of Stone", "Love and Understanding", all have been huge hits at one time or another. There's the under rated 70s gem "Dark Lady" and cool 80s re-make of "Bang Bang", her biggest duet with Sonny, Meat Loaf even makes an appearance and a few tracks that are quite hard to find.
br / All in all a great release, a collection of true Cher gems and a CD that i would recommened to everyone. Cher Rules!!!
Mostly 1987-1992 May 13, 2008 Peter Durward Harris (Leicester England) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This British compilation spanned Cher's entire career from the beginning up to 1992, when the album was compiled. However, the sixties are only represented by I got you babe (the classic Sonny and Cher duet) and a 1987 re-recording of Bang bang, while the seventies are also just represented by two songs (Gypsies tramps and thieves, Dark lady) but as Cher only made the UK charts twice during that decade, nothing essential is omitted. As I already had a comprehensive double CD of Cher's sixties and seventies music (Singles plus) when I bought this, I wasn't concerned about the omission of several hits from the sixties, but I nevertheless feel that it is necessary to point out that this compilation is mainly about the years 1987 to 1992.
br /
br /Although Cher's music has always been popular in Britain, her chart history is patchy - some big hits including three number ones, though only one of them (Shoop shoop song, better known to oldies fans as It's in his kiss) is included here because the others (Love can build a bridge, Believe) were recorded after 1992. A more recent hits compilation that includes those tracks is available, but if you're particularly interested in Cher's music from 1987 to 1992, this is worth a listen.
br /
br /Apart from Shoop shoop song, Cher's other top major solo hits of the period (I found someone, If I could turn back time, Just like Jesse James, Love and understanding) are all here, together with some of her minor hits. Also included is Dead ringer for love, which provided Meat Loaf with a British top five hit. Cher sang on that track but was not credited on the single release.
br /
br /The inclusion of the three older recordings as the three closing tracks merely serves to remind me that I still prefer Cher's music fgrom the sixties and seventies, but this is a fine compilation and I know that there will be plenty of fans who think this period was Cher's best.
