One Of Britain's Greatest Ever Pop Stars! March 28, 2001 mrmckille@hotmail.com (Windsor) 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
Well what cane be said about this album? It is simply great! Most of the hits from Sir Elton are here. The only missing hits are the ones from the Lion King and also Made In England (His later hits).pThe tracks are carfully selected and really get you in the mood for a good sing along. Even if you are not the greatest Elton fan you cannot help singing it out loud.pI was introduced to this album by an ex. After hearing it once I was hooked. If I can thank her for anything it is for introducing me to Elton and his music.pQuite simply put this album is a classic!
Simply Elton At His Best! September 19, 2000 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
This double CD is excellent. Before I bought this I had only really listened to a few of Elton's well known hits. But after listening to this I am a complete fan! I especially like I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues. I would definitly recommend this as the definitive Elton CD. Unfortunatly a couple of hits such as Made In England and Circle Of Life are missing but that should not affect the quality of this CD!
Surely, Elton needs no introduction, as he was hugely popula October 28, 2004 Peter Durward Harris (Leicester England) 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
Surely, Elton needs no introduction, as he was hugely popular around the world. During the period covered by this compilation, he only had two number one hits in Britain although he had several in America during the same period. Since then, he has had at least four further UK number one hits. So while many people consider the seventies and eighties to be Elton's golden years, he has demonstrated that he is not finished yet. pEven in 1990, Elton had too many great songs to fit on a double CD, the most notable omissions from this one being Tiny dancer, Island girl and Little Jeannie. His more recent compilation covering his career up to 2002 was issued with slightly different track listins in the UK and USA included some of these songs (which ones depend on the edition) but several other tracks were omitted to make way for them and the more recent songs. Lucy in the sky with diamonds, Pinball wizard, Part time love and Passengers are among the songs on this compilation that are omitted from both editions of the 2002 compilation. pYou probably have your own particular favorite Elton songs. Of those included here, my favorites in no particular order are Your song, Candle in the wind, Crocodile rock, I'm still standing, Part time love, Sad songs and his duet with the vastly under-rated Kiki Dee, Don't go breaking my heart. The song that really confuses me is Passengers. I've never actually figured out what the song is about. Still, it's not the only such song (another is Whiter shade of pale, the sixties classic). pIf you enjoy Elton's music but you're not interested in his more recent music, you may consider buying this compilation instead. pI should add that I had no problem with this set, so the reviewer who had a defective copy must have been unlucky.
Wu- tang January 3, 2009 R. Jennings (wendesbury) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Whilst I did not like CD1 of this two disc set I found it indispensfully useful whilst attempting to prevent sub-atomic bursts of radiation from hitting CD2 which I had not listened to yet. Later I found out CD2 was also complete twaddle and certainly not worth the loss of my thumb and index finger.
The very best of everything he's ever done March 21, 2000 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
The ultimate collection of Elton John Music. Places everything post 1991 in the shade. Lively tracks with real feeling in the words, makes you want to get up and sing yourself.
