5 out of 5 stars the rarest of rare beauty   May 1, 2001

Bought this after reading about it in Q's Top 50 albums of the year way back when it was released. I was launching a magazine at the time and by the time it hit the stands all the team were completely, completely hooked. We never got bored with it, played it again and again and again and I'm sure it still holds really fond memories for all of them. Poor Eg, poor Alice - they created a total masterpiece and nobody's ever heard of either them or it. Wonderful for driving to in the dead of night. Mojo should do it as a Buried Treasure.

5 out of 5 stars One of the great forgotten 90's albums   June 9, 2000

I can remember hearing Indian on the radio exactly twice, and on the second occasion phoning the radio station (BBC GLR in London) demanding that this time they tell me who it was by. Then going out and trudging around the shops (this was about 1992!) until I eventually found a copy. The entire album was of the same quality or better It still sounds as good today as when I first got it home then, a gloriously warm fusion of Aja era Steely Dan melodies, lyrically reminiscent of James Taylor, with the combination of Eg's blue-eyed soul vocals and Alice's halting English Chanteuse style. It really is that good, and even now friends who I play it to for the first time are usually compelled to find a copy.pFor anyone else who loves this record, find a copy of Eg's Turn me on I'm a rocket man album, which came out some years later and probably sold even less.

5 out of 5 stars The best album I have every bought!   July 7, 2000

I bought this album approximately eight years ago having heard it at a friend's house. I was immediately taken with it and it is the only album in my collection of 1,200 or so has been played at least once a month since I bought it. I popped into Amazon to order a second copy in case the first ever gets damaged. I cannot understand why this album, or indeed Eg and Alice, never really made it as it one of the all time greats. Maybe it was lack of airplay/promotion. It truly is fantastic. If I had to choose one album to listen to for the rest of my life, this would be it. The second album, Turn me on I'm a Rocket Man which is by Eg (without Alice) is good but doesn't quite match up.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful, soulful, unknown treasure   September 18, 2001

This is as good as music gets. It's as simple as that. Some beautiful lyrics, haunting sounds and great atmosphere. The 'whoooooooow' at the start of Indian is worth the money alone. Rockets is lovely too. Recommended to anyone who was ever into Nick Drake or Frazier Chorus, but in fact much more soul/jazzy than either. Eg's solo work is kinda sweet too.

5 out of 5 stars My favourite album of all time   May 5, 2005

I can't agree more with the comments of other reviewers. I bought this before going to university and the haunting melodies caught my attention straight away. It is the only album I have had for over 10 years that I still listen too - and indeed look forward to coming up on my i-Pod. There isn't a duff track on it and it is a tragedy that the duo haven't recorded anything else.
