Stick with this one... you won't regret it! May 11, 2001 Sarah, (wastedfairy@aol.com) (England) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Well, like everyone it seems, I bought this after hearing Lucky on the Buffy album and loving it. When i bought the album I assumed it would be full of similar tracks and when the melancholy violin on I Died began I wasn't surprised. However, when the guitars began and the actually very rocky song began I began to regret buying this album - it wasn't like Lucky at all! However, I kept it on my discman for a week and by the end of the week I couldn't turn it off! I loved it! There isn't another Lucky on here, Anything is probably the closest thing to a ballad apart from Lucky. But the other songs more than make up for it! The ones to listen out for are Only the Girl, Twitch (GREAT lyrics), Spaceman, Chotee, The Peacock Song... I could go on until I've listed every song on there! It's all good! But definitely one of those albums that grows on you... give it time and you won't regret it! The only bad thing is that Bif Naked aren't very well known in the UK... and you won't be able to discuss it much with your friends. :-(
Excellent excellent album March 25, 2002 C. Feeney (Ireland) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Like what appears to be everyone else here, I first heard Bif Naked on the Buffy album. Having read some other people's reviews here on Amazon, I was unsure whether or not to get it, with Lucky being the only song of it's type on the CD. After weeks of pondering, I decided to go for it, and I am really glad I did! She does screaming punk-rock chick and soulfull songstress both with incredible ease. Tho' there are only two of the latter on the album, which I hope will change with her next album. The lyrics on all the songs are original and interesting, with Sophia and The Peacock Song springing to mind because of their memorable lyrics. Those of you still unsure, even after reading the reviews and listening to the clips, (unluckily for me I couldn't listen to the clips so I had to go by reviews alone) just go for it! Even if this isn't your type of music (it's not really mine either) give it one week and it'll grow on you. Bif's not popular over here and I haven't even heard of her from america, which is a pity, because she isn't just another angry rock chick wannabe, she truly is original. Don't pass her by.
I've been waiting a long time to enjoy an album as much. October 9, 2001 J. Kelly (England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This album deserves to be a major hit in the UK. Original. Passionate. Everything the manufactured bands are not. A good mixture of heavier rock songs like 'I Died' and 'Moment of Weakness' and more melodic tunes with 'Violence' and 'Anything'. But the best for me is still the Buffy soundtrack song 'Lucky'. I'll be enjoying this album for the rest of my life.
FANTASTIC February 12, 2002 dion_jade@hotmail.com (england) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
if u've heard lucky and thought it was great then u have a treat instore for you, the lyrics, tune and pace of each track differs enough to refrain from the boring monotony that many albums suffer from these days, she has a brilliant strong and individual voice and style, and the song 'i died' made me want to weep, but u gotta hear her to love her
one of the best cds i've heard in ages April 3, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
