Editorial Reviews:

From Amazon.com
Though now known mainly for his middle-of-the-road balladry, Neil Diamond started his career in the '60s as a Tin Pan Alley pro who turned out a string of ballsy, folk-rock-styled classic Top 40 singles that may come as a surprise to anyone who's grown up with the image of Diamond as a sensitive crooner and Vegas showman. This 2 CD set contains all of his hits, but it isn't quite the definitive package that its title suggests. His early Bang singles ("Cherry, Cherry," "Kentucky Woman," "Solitary Man") and his later Columbia material ("You Don't Bring Me Flowers," "America," "Heartlight") appear in their original versions. But his mid-period MCA/UNI hits ("Sweet Caroline," "Song Sung Blue," "I Am ... I Said") are represented by live re-recordings from 1989 and 1992. I--Scott Schinder/I

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic - believe it!!   April 1, 2005

Couldn't understand previous reviews of this at all. As a greatest hits compilation it is pretty much flawless. Yes, there are a dozen or so live versions (not the whole 37 tracks as was previously implied) but they are superb better than the studio versions in my opinion. So give it a try - I seriously doubt that you will be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars A shining example of modern song writing genius   July 12, 2000

The only singer/songwriter with the sustained ability to writeand perform his own Material over 5 decades. Neil Diamonds hits aremuch more powerful and moving than His contempories, such as Neil Sedaka or even Elvis Presley. Diamond's songs have the ability to make you think (Solitary Man); make you fall in love (You don't bring me flowers); make you cry (Songs of Life). With the most powerful voice in the business and a haunting range of notes Diamond together with a superbly crafted ballad can invoke a different range of emotion. Some people are and have been critical of Diamond. Though many songwriters like Sting respect his work and infact hold his work to be some what more inspirational than any one else. Lastly Diamond is a wonderful lesson in music. His music is more creative and timeless than other composers, compare Oasis, Travis, Pulp to him at your peril. Long live the King, Diamond that is.

With classic hits on this collection such as Hello, Love on the rocks and Sweet Caroline but to name a few, This is a CD of masterclass proportions that no Neil Diamond fan should be without. It emcompasses the life the love and works of Neil Diamond and the songs that will live on forever in the hearts and the minds of everyone who has brought this collection or who can relate to the tracks on it. A fantastic piece of digital remastering at its very best. Top class.

5 out of 5 stars You either love him or you hate him - sad but i love him   November 16, 1999

You either love Neil Diamond or you hate him - and I have found that I love him. This is a complete cd that has every Neil Diamond song one could wish for. And, unfortunately a few I could most definitely do without (such as "Hello Again" and "Heartlight"). My favorites, songs like "Forever in Blue Jeans" and "Sweet Caroling" are extremely high-energy songs that are buckets of fun when they are put on at high volumes. For anyone who has seen and enjoyed SuperDiamond - a Neil Diamond impersonate who could be a San Francisco thing because that is the only place I have ever seen him - you really must get this cd which has all the songs performed by the real deal.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant - captures every mood.   November 8, 2000

A sensational album that I do not tire of listening to. Some sensational songs on this album that range from the loud rock stuff down to the quieter ballads. Every Neil Diamond fan should own this album that is sure to become a firm favourite.
