Amazon.co.uk Review Thirty or so of Stevie Wonder's biggest hits--many of them enduring classics--make up ISong Review/I. That's the good news. The bad news is that they're sequenced here about as well (or maybe not) as your CD player's "random" function might do it. Leading off with "Part-Time Lover"--a major chart record, no doubt, but hardly the rouser you'd expect for an opener--is puzzling enough. It's when the programming starts veering from highlights of his self-produced period ("Sir Duke") to Motown assembly-line pieces ("My Cherie Amour") that the head-scratching really begins. And don't try to count the great moments that are missing. This will do in a pinch, but if you own no Stevie, be advised that better overviews of Wonder's career (the finest by far being the four-CD box IAt the Close of a Century/I) are available.--IRickey Wright/I

This album shows music fans everywhere the inimitable style and variety which can only be categorised under wonder,Stevie. from the up tempo stylings of part time lover to the tear jerking sadness of Lately , Stevie shows why he is one of the most respected singer/songwriters in history. this is an album that can be listened to at any time ,anywhere by anyone and is proved by the fact that the likes of Oasis , Artful dodger and even S-Club 7 have covered songs from this cd. My peronal favourite is superstition in which stevie plays every single instrument but just listen to how long he holds the last note on redemption song!!! WONDERful.
mmm...superb! September 28, 2000 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've listened to this cd so many times over and over now and every time i listen i like it more! Especially track 19 'for your love', i think this is one of the best on here, it brings such a big smile to my face when i hear it, and consequently makes my day and of course my all time fave 'i just called to say i love you'
A wonderful Stevie Wonder retrospective collection September 6, 2003 Daniel Jolley (Shelby, North Carolina USA) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
Stevie Wonder ~ Song Review is rightly billed as "A Greatest Hits Collection." This is by no means THE Stevie Wonder Greatest Hits Collection, although there are certainly many of Stevie's truly classic recordings included here. This two-CD collection really serves as a retrospective on the first 35 years of Stevie's career, and I think it serves its intended purpose very well by making room for some of Stevie's less familiar yet brilliant recordings, although the absence of such great tracks as Fingertips Part 2, For Once in My Life, and Isn't She Lovely is noticeable. I consider myself a big Wonder fan, and there are songs here I had never heard before. When you look at all of Stevie's biggest hits, the ballads are somewhat overshadowed by the funky, toe-tapping, energetic tracks, and this collection restores some of the balance, touching on all of the many facets of Wonder's musical genius. pThe one aspect of this collection I would question is the arrangement of the 31 songs, as there is hardly any consistency to it, and this gives birth to some odd transitions. No matter what order the songs are played, though, you will not find anything less than a five-star song in this bunch (even though Hey Love is one of the few Stevie songs I really don't care for). You get early Stevie frenetic classics such as I Was Made to Love Her, Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours, and Uptight; funkadelic standouts such as Superstition, Master Blaster (Jammin'), Living For the City, That Girl, and Boogie on Reggae Woman; and unforgettable ballads such as I Just Called to Say I Love You, My Cherie Amour, Ribbon in the Sky, You Are the Sunshine of My Life, and Send One Your Love. The only way I can classify some of my favorites is by calling them songs no one but Stevie could ever have written or performed: Sir Duke, Higher Ground, and Do I Do. Ebony and Ivory, Stevie's wildly successful duet with Paul McCartney, is a welcome addition to the fold, as are the tracks Part-Time Lover and the exquisitely beautiful ballad Overjoyed from Stevie's 1995 In Square Circle album. The best of the best, though, in my opinion, are the emotionally striking All I Do and the magnificent I Wish. If I Wish doesn't get your blood flowing and at least some part of your body moving with the beat, you are in dire straits indeed. pI really wasn't familiar with several of the later songs included here, and I am indeed thankful to this collection for introducing them to me. You Will Know, These Three Words, and Kiss Lonely Good-bye are just exquisite, while the two final tracks, Hold On To Your Dream and Redemption Song, are as inspirational as they are lyrically delightful. If all you are looking for are Stevie's chart-topping hits, there are other collections that will meet your requirements much better than Song Review will, but if you want a truly representative collection of songs that clearly touches upon all facets of Stevie's wide-ranging skills and showcases his mastery of all manner of song styles, then this collection may be just what you are looking for. The liner notes, while not extensive, also do a great job of explaining Stevie Wonder's musical prowess, as he is much, much more than a singer/songwriter/keyboardist.
Be careful April 24, 2008 I. Thomson (Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This greatest hits collection by Stevie Wonder, was one i purchased in my local Woolworths in Kirkcaldy, a couple of years ago.

br /However, do be wary if you decide to buy this. Many songs by Stevie Wonder may be acknowledged: "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm yours"; "You're the sunshine of my life", "He's misstra know-it-all", but as far as i'm concerned, this collection is devoid of something. This includes: virtually no trace of his work on "Fulfillingless' First Finale, all of which are sadly absent; a lot of songs including the likes of: "I ain't gonna stand for it", "He hasn't done nothin'", "Superwoman", "All in life is fair" and "Love's in need in love today" are not here, but should be; probably the worst trasverty of them all are "Isn't she lovely" and "Living in the city" being the cut versions, obmitting the role-play scene and the entire second part in the latter and the baby noises in the former.
br /
br /Overall, this could all be done to the fact, Wonder has done so much verstalise material in his long career, let alone, a running streak of classic albums from 1972 to 1976, may prompt only a rough and general selection to be included. If you are new to Wonder, i would suggest avoiding this and buying one of his classic works, like: Innversions, Talking Book, Fulfillingless' First Finale or best of all, Songs in the key of life. If you must insist on a greatest hits package, then probably would be a better bet than Stevie Wonder: The Ultimate Collection.

A warning January 15, 2008 Mr. D. A. Taylor (Scotland) I took the advice of the Amazon Review and bought the At the Close of the Century + book. A big mistake that. It is just a massive book of silly photos with the cds attached to the books - you have to either keep the cds in the book separate from your other cds or detach them from the book and put them in cd sleeves yourself and have a very cheap looking item. Then throw the "pop culture" book away. Buy this one instead and never trust Amazon Reviews.
