Amazon.co.uk Review Prepare for a ride akin to flipping radio channels. Craig Armstrong's style was set for him with the success of IRomeo + Juliet/I (the "Balcony Scene" being included here). It's what directors have wanted since (e.g. IBest Laid Plans/I) and so why not capitalise on what will effectively be a useful demo and produce an album showcasing all that versatility? "Weather Storm" starts off as he means to go on--strong passages for strings underlined by rough- house club beats. What Armstrong also demonstrates here is a fine ear for comparative sampling with an orchestral backing. "Rise" is a good example of that, with it's layer of vinyl crackle. "After the Storm" is an even better one with tempo sliding about and a highly cut-and-paste intro of effects. With a track named after his hometown--"Glasgow"--there's obviously much that is personal about the project ("My Father"?). A great demonstration of a classical / film crossover artist encapsulating the best of both mediums. I-- Paul Tonks/I

This album is amazing. There are some you will recognise, and some you will just love from the moment you here it. It mixes orchestral sounds with up-to-date beats and sounds you will want to listen to 24:7. Very relaxing, and emotion evoking. Songs from Romeo+Juliet, Cruel Intentions and that famous Claudia Schiffer car ad.
a classic April 16, 2002 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
craig armstrong is a legend. as if producing and co-writing for massive attack, and scoring some of the best films of recent years (romeo and juliet, moulin rouge) wasn't enough, his contribution to music is completed with this and his 2nd album, As If To Nothing.pThis is a perfect album, changing moods tempos but the quality of the tunes and arrangements never falters. brhighlight is 'this love' with liz fraser's fragile and beautiful vocalsbrarmstrong deserves a higher profile.bryou must buy this album. it is an under-rated classic.
continued genius April 16, 2002 12 out of 16 found this review helpful
ive been totally drawn into his music since i heard 'this love' from his previous album. You can certainly hear his experience in soundtracks since then has created a more eclectic edge to his music, wihich has created a powerful blend of beats and strings. You really cant go wrong here, though perhaps 'the space between us' was more immediatly accessable, this provides more strength in depth.brThe first track is wonderfull. the second is as memorable as 'this love' but reminds me more of 'lets go out tonight'. the only let down ive really noticed so far is the track with bono which i think is a let down.
Quite simply gorgeous! December 19, 2007 D. Thorpe (Lincolnshire, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Take good string/piano dominated classical music, make it moody dramatic. Now sprinkle with just a hint of the more contemporary elements of the likes of Massive attack and drift off in to outerspace. In fact forget what I've just said, it's not doing the man enough justice! He is pure genius.
Ubiquity doesn't detract from brilliance May 7, 2009 Martin Fielding (Findon, West Sussex United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's impossible to watch any reality show at present without being ambushed by Craig Armstrong or Sigur Ros - Armstrong is the more versatile of the pair and his film work reminds me of Sakamoto at his best - all his albums are good although this one is hindered in places rather than helped by the guest vocalists. Essential nonetheless.
