Amazon.co.uk Review
For better or worse, Phil Collins's "In the Air Tonight" was the "Stairway to Heaven" of the 1980s, winning radio stations' listener polls and even lending its designer threat to an episode of iMiami Vice/i. iHits/i recalls the days when the Collins name on a disc ensured its immediate embrace by programmers and the public. How you feel about these songs will depend on how you felt about them then; despite the undeniable niceness of "Take Me Home" and "One More Night", they're unlikely to win over anyone who didn't adore them to begin with. Those who cared, though, will no doubt be gladdened to find most of Collins's biggest tunes together on one disc. i--Rickey Wright /i

5 out of 5 stars A concise compilation that every music fan should own!!   June 6, 2002

If you were to only buy one Phil Collins album in your entire life then this shold be it! The album charts Phil's greatest chart successes such as the classic "In the air tonight," the motown tribute "You can't hurry love," his recently covered "Against all odds" and "Another day in paradise and his electric duet with Philip Bailey on "Easy Lover." brPhil seems to have fallen into the category of writing slushy love songs when in reality, this guy is a true songwriting genius. Undoubtedly he has written some slow songs, but compare those with the likes of "Sussudio" and "Easy Lover" which both topped the dance charts in 1985.brI have only in the last few years got to realise how talented and basically great this bloke is. This cd should convert novices into full-time Phil fans-go and buy it now!!brI would also like to recommend the track "Something happened on the way to heaven" which was originally on his "BUT SERIOUSLY" album. Although this track only reached number 15 in the UK chart, it should have been an instant chart topper as it seems to define his style at this time and is a great sing along tune.pLIKE I SAID ABOVE....GO AND BUY THIS ALBUM INSTANTLY!!

The choice of tracks on this Phil Collins CD is excellent. Every track is well known and liked by most people. The sound recording and clarity is perfect and out of all the hits that Collins has recorded these must be the most popular. brThe interesting point about this CD is that when it is played in a public place (i.e. a bar or restaurant), all age groups either begin singing to each track or tapping their feet, many ask who the recording artist is because they feel they know the music but can't remember who recorded the songs.brI don't need to go through each song, as the reader can see from the playlist what is on the CD, however, I will say it is a must for any CD collection, even if, like me, you have had no other Phil Collins recordings the purchaser will benefit from this one.brOne final 'ditty', this CD was so popular that I had to purchase a second copy.....the first one was stolen!

If you like Phil Collins but don't own any of his albums this is a CD that you must buy. It contains almost all of his hit songs and it is one of the best The Best albums I have ever bought from any artist. All his solo career is summarised in this album. Don't miss it!

5 out of 5 stars TIS A GRAND TRIBUTE   October 18, 2003

Ahh This is one those albums that thy mum had owned for a while so thou decided what all the fuss was about. I found myself being presently surprised!!! Hard to believe when my friends said he was utter rubbish. But i find it being played on my cd player consistently. p....... And with that the master magician banished his punk rock albums to the depths of fiery hell for all eternity.........

5 out of 5 stars Comprehensive coverage of Phil's biggest hits   August 1, 2001
6 out of 6 found this review helpful

This collection covers all Phil's big hits, and has the particular advantage of bringing together on one disc his hits from film soundtracks and other projects. However, the omission of the early singles 'I missed again' and 'If leaving me is easy' is surprising - consequently from his excellent first solo album only the classic 'In the air tonight' appears. Some of the tracks sound a bit dated now and Phil's style is not to everyone's taste, but there are many very enjoyable songs, the only one I prefer to skip being the preachy and over-long 'Both sides of the story'. But the album certainly merits 5 stars for good coverage of Phil's work.
