Amazon.co.uk Review
Actress Jennifer Lopez's debut album fails in its attempt to provide a worthy musical backdrop to her much-discussed diva-esque image. Over the course of 13 songs, iOn the 6/i displays barely a glimmer of the verve, poise, and sensuality of her screen performances in the likes of iOut of Sight/i. With little vocal talent to rely on, Lopez generally seems content to ape Madonna's middle register like any happy radio listener. Similarly, several of the tracks here seem too rooted in the Latin-lite clichés of "La Isla Bonita". With practice--more Lopez CDs will surely follow in the wake of i6/i's success--the star might develop into a singer worth reckoning with, but for now she stands as a wonderful actress and a musical artist with an unengaging album to her name. i--Rickey Wright /i

5 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT BRONX BABE   December 20, 2001

Jennifer Lopez - or J Lo - shot to fame with the track that everyone knows, If You Had My Love, which is a gem in the crown of the Bronx on this album. She ain't just a pretty face, she's talented beyond belief! Urban happy song Feelin' So Good will get anybody dancing, as will Waiting For Tonight and it's Spanish counterpart Una Nocha Mas. Open Off My Love is an infectious blend of beats, and Let's Get Loud is a party tune to die for! The only real downfall is the dreadful Baila, but overall the Bronx has a babe to be proud of!

5 out of 5 stars Urban Classic. J-Lo Should Not Have Left This Style Behind.   January 3, 2005

This was the debut LP of now-modern day icon Jennifer Lopez, was released way back in 1999 when the young starlet was not much more than a wannabe. Now, nearly 6 years on, such a time seems difficult to remember. Lopez, if of course, one of the most famous women in the world. Interestingly, a quick listen to this album, even if it is six years old, reveals just how well it's aged. The best of the LP still sound fresh and exciting even now. In particular, the album's lead single "If You Had My Love" could easily be last week's #1 Urban Single. It sounds amazing to this day. Frankly, I don't believe this is down to the talent of the artist. Columbia Records got some of the best and most established producers on board with this album, something that's reflected in the quality of the tracks here.pMoving on, and a real change in musical style, "Waiting For Tonight", another big hit from the release, sounds equally impressive. Club mogul and professional DJ Eric Kupper had a hand in this track, something that is displayed through the sharp and modern House/Club vibe of the song. Other big favourites of the album are "Let's Get Loud" - a Gloria Estefan inspired latin-flavoured party stormer, that despite it's unoriginal lyrics and sound, still manages to hit all the right spots - and with style. "Should've Never" - the standard pop ballad that no urban album of this style would be complete without it - is, happily, more than just a filler. With it' slick production and solid lyrics it manages to pull of the difficult task of slushy ballad without turning into a sloppy mess.pOverall, this is probably still Lopez' best musical release to date. The key to it's success is it's ability to skilfully and seemlessley move between styles - from RB and Pop, to Hip-Hop and Dance. It's all done in such a way that makes the whole album a joy to listen to. The album shows promise on J-Lo's part, but in all honesty is probably more testimant to it's producers skills than anything else. It's a shame that subsequent releases by the Hollywood diva didn't live up to these standards.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, can only be exceeded by her beauty   April 13, 2003

I bought this cd ages ago and sort of pushed it to the back of the pile. However I listened to this cd again and it is excellent. Each song is excellent. It contains several genre's which would appeal to all listeners. Whether you want an upbeat tune, or latino luxury or simply a lucious love song, this album contains it all and much more. It contains a few ballads in Spanisg such as "no me ames", which is truly uplifting. Buy it now, if you have JLO (2nd Album) or "This is Me" Third album, you'll love this

5 out of 5 stars if you like her acting you'll love her music   December 19, 1999

this c.d is showing the talent that jennifer has, not only is she a good actress but a wonderful singer.I must say most people who going into acting to singing just haven't got it, i know many british actors and actresses that go into music and haven't got that quality, many soap stars try this, and i feel they don't have the same talent as this women has, this album shows her talent for a varity of songs, and is enjoyable to all ages as a teen i think most teenagers will take a kean like to this.
